Restaurants? Ambergris Caye
I've been checking out this site for months, and finally my trip is almost here!
We'll be staying four nights in early December at the Victoria House in Ambergris Caye. Does anyone have any restaurant recommendations in the area? Would they be accessible by taxi? Any other must-sees/dos while we're there would be much appreciated as well. We'll also be spending four nights at Blancaneaux in the Cayo, but I understand that's pretty secluded so I imagine we'll just be having our meals at the resort. Thanks, in advance, for any help! |
There are LOTS of excellent restaurants in all price ranges on Ambergris Caye.
A few I'd especially recommend: Capricorn -- it's a short boat ride away but worth it Blue Water Grill -- at the south edge of town near SunBreeze -- don't miss the coconut shrimp El Divino at Banana Beach -- if you get a hankering for a good steak and a cold martini, not far from Victoria House Papi's Diner -- at the north end of town -- no views or atmosphere, just good moderately priced local food There are many other great places -- Casa Picasso, Caliente, Elvi's, plus many inexpensive joints like Los Cocos. You can take a taxi (or water taxi in the case of Capricorn) for US$5 or so, or go by golf cart if you rent one. Blancaneaux has good food, but if you have a chance hike down to Five Sisters for a change of pace. --Lan Sluder <San Pedro Cool, Fodor's Belize & Guatemala, etc.> |
Woulsd you please write a trip report when you get back, I would love to hear about Blancaneaux. I have been fascinated with it since it was in Architectural Digest and I still haven't made it there yet!
Have a great time!! |
It would be great to get another report on Blancaneaux. I've done lots of articles and reviews on Blancaneaux. You could check my Web site -- www.belizefirst.com -- and then just search for Blancaneaux. I was last by Blancaneaux this summer and have stayed there probably four or five times.

Elvi's--wonderful coconut shrimp & best key lime pie
Capricorn--excellent! Our BEST meal. The owners are wonderful people. Make reservations in advance! Mambo (?)--the restaurant at Mata Chica. Food was pretty good. Limited selection. In Belize City--the Fort Street Guest House has wonderful Conch Fritters I am not a seafood person, but I was won over by the quality--so fresh! I'm so jealous of you! I wish I was going back to Belize soon! Check out the zoo! |
Just a quick comment: Fort Street Guesthouse in Belize City closed a couple of years ago.
Capricorn has changed hands recently but is still excellent. --Lan Sluder |
Thank you all for your great responses and I'll definitely come back with a report! We're not set to leave until Dec. 5th, so I'd love to hear any other recommendations any of you have on restaurants,s ights, activities, etc. Lan, I'll check out your site. Thanks again!

Another vote for Capricorn. Rendezvous was also excellent.

Capricorn is definitely the best. There are new owners, but I think they have made it even better than ever.
