Restaurant recommendations in Arenal Volcano Area

We're leaving for CR on Thursday. Any suggestions for restaurants in the La Fortuna/Arenal area? How is the food at Volcano Lodge? (We are staying nearby at Palo Verde Resort) Everyone has all ready been so helpful...I will report back when I return.

Try some really great "typical food" of the locals and eat at Choza de Laurel. Fantastic food, lots of it, and very inexpensive. We loved it.

We were just there in the beg. of Feb. and in town we really liked Don Rufino's and Nene's. They were both good and we ate at both a couple of times.

Just returned from a great trip to Cost Rica. Stayed at the Volcano Lodge. The restaurant at the entrance to the Lodge is excellent.

If you have dinner at the Lost Iguana resort, you might be lucky enough to see lava flow from the attractive outdoor dining area. We did! Food is good, not great, but good enough for us to have dinner there twice, even though we had a car and could have eaten anywhere. Avoid dessert, and order fish or beef, they were both good.

They also had a buffet for dinner up at the Arenal observatory lodge, which we enjoyed one night, plus you get a closer view of the lava flow from up there. (Unless it's clouded over or the lava flow direction changes.) I actually preferred the volcano view from our rooms at the Lost Iguana resort.
