Resort in Central America for 40th anniversary ?

We will be celebrating in January- February , 2011. We have traveled to Costa Rica so would rather try something new. We would like to combine a restful stay at a resort on the Pacific with some ruins. Open to any country. This s vague I know, but would appreciate a start to my search.

Belize would be a good option for you. We did a split of jungle time/ruins with beach time and loved it. Victoria House on Ambergris is really beautiful and relaxing. Chaa Creek is nice for the inland experience. You can also travel over to Tikal in Guatemala. Amazing pyramids there.

Why the Pacific? My experiences in Honduras and Belize have been wonderful but that's the Caribbean. In both countries a split between inland and island/beach gives you a great balance including the ruins and blue water that draw us back year after year. My photos and travelogues are here in case you'd like to check them out:

Happy trails!

are the links to the places I recommended above. If you have your heart set on the Pacific, disregard Victoria House - it's on the Caribbean side. I think you should give the Caribbean some thought though.
