Renting for a month

My wife and I are searching for a good spot in Mexica/Central America/Caribbean to spend a month each winter in Jan/Feb. We work from home, so we'd be working while away, and we'd have our two young children with us. We would require reliable internet and childcare. And we'd love to be near an awesome beach, within walking distance of a vibrant town with shops, restaurants, etc. A pool (private or shared) for the kiddies would be great.

We were thinking Honduras, but we're willing to consider anywhere, including Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Belize, etc.

Ideally, we'd get a place for around $1500 for the month.

Anybody know of a place that might suit our particular needs?

Thanks!

I do not think you can get a decent two bedroom place for $1500 a month in Jan or Feb in a town on the Mayan Riviera, like Playa del Carmen where you could get child care. I own a two bedroom condo there must off the beach, with a shared pool, and I am pretty aware of rental prices all around town there in winter. So I think you can cross that off the list.

Thanks emd3,

I appreciate your response. Mexico is still an option for us, but we're kind of excited about some places we've seen in Honduras and Nicaragua.

Anyone know of anything good in those countries? Are they too dangerous to travel in with small children?

We spent a couple of weeks in Nicaragua last year. Loved it, and, never felt unsafe. I wouldn't hesitate to travel there with children. Where are you looking at staying?

I've never been to Honduras. Met some people last year who live in the capitol city. They said they never walk anywhere. Too dangerous. That doesn't mean the entire country isn't safe, but, choose carefully.

Thanks for your reply, Jean. I've seen a couple of promising places around San Juan del Sur.

Where did you stay last year?

We spent three nights in San Juan del Sur. Nice enough little town, although we decided two nights would have been enough. We loved Ometepe Island. Also, really enjoyed the colonial city of Granada.

I think San Juan del Sur wouldn't be a bad place to live for a month. Ok beaches, with different ones to explore a few miles down the road. Food was inexpensive.
