Renting an apartment in BA - tipping the maid

We will be renting an apartment in BA for 5 weeks this summer. Since we will be there for an extended period, should we tip the maid each week or wait until the end of our visit? I want to make sure the maid gets the money. Also, suggestions for an appropriate amount would be welcome. We always tip hotel maids and I don't want to neglect the people who clean our apartment. I am concerned that if we wait until the end of our visit, the money might not get to the correct person. Any advice would be appreciated.

How often is your apartment supposed to be cleaned? Every day? Once a week?

Once a week.

I would say 20 pesos per week would make the maid EXTREMELY happy. Maybe even ten.

Wages for maids are very low. I would say that if a maid comes in one time per week to clean the apartment and the cleaning takes two hours, a 20 peso tip would be more than her wages for the same period of time.

avrooster and Drdawggy: Thanks very much for your advice. I feel better having some standard to base my tips on. Annette

We use the peso equivalent of $1.00 USD a day per person throughout Latin America to keep it simple.

Thank you, Mikemo. An easy formula.
