RENTAL CAR QUESTION
Hi there, have any of you rented a Daihatsu Terios? If so do you think that it is safe? We have never driven in Costa Rica there is only 2 of us. Do you think that it will be ok to drive around there?
Thanks in advance. |
I'm not familiar with that car but I can say that most of the places that tourists will want to go do not require 4wd. The paved roads may have potholes and there are plenty of gravel roads as well but most are easy to navigate if you just take it easy. For just 2 of you the smallest car should be adequate. Driving can be safe in CR; lots of other tourists are out there with you. Just take the usual precautions plus an extra dose!

I agree with dncee11. You probably won't need the 4X4, but there have been times we were glad for the extra clearance. We've rented the Terios and have gotten along well with it!

I feel better now. Thank so much.

We've (2 of us 50 somethings) had a Terios each time we've been in CR and it was just fine. Drove up and down some rocky rutty back roads and through a small stream. No problem. Reasonably comfortable.

It depends on where you will be driving. If you want to go to Monteverde, you would probably be OK with a regular car IF they had just finished regrading and regravelling the roads. If they haven't, you would definitely want a good sized all-wheel drive.

We were in CR August 16 to 26 and rented a Diahatsu Terios. We were happy we had it for our drive to Monteverde. We were a family of four with four duffle bags and four small backpacks and it was little tight, but manageable.
