rental car in Cabo
 

I will be staying in Cabo San Lucas, closer to San Jose del Cabo, in June. Is it a good idea to rent a car?

If you're staying near San Jose and planning on going to Cabo San Lucas, or would like to move around even a little bit, I'd rent a car. You can get great deals from all the major car rental agencies (we rented last June for $19.00 per day).

Cab rides are generally expensive and not as convenient; one round trip cab ride will be more than a day's car rental.

Hertz picks up their staff first at the airport, leaving you at the curb, waiting another 30 minutes for their shuttle. Plenty of room in the shuttle. If you waive the cdw, CHECK THE CAR carefully! The Glove compartment door cost $150! Also persistant hassling about Hilton time share presentation from Hertz staff. After three polite no's, I afraid I had to be an UGLY AMERICAN and raised ny voice and stood face to face and said STOP! Amazing how their command of the English language comes and goes!

We're going to Cabo for a week May 17. Any suggestions re a good rental car agency and rates? Thanks, eb from Texas

we had a good experience with budget last year, have had bad experience with avis. We were there in high season and paid about $75 per day.

Rental cars, like most of Los Cabos, are outrageously expensive!

We will be traveling to Cabo in October and are also interested in renting a car to transport our family of 5 for the week. Any other recommendations on rental agencies and/or info about the extra insurance? Thank you.

you need to take local insurance, as most credit card company insurance does not cover rental in Mexico, but check with your credit card company. We have had a poor experience with avis, and a fine one with dollar.

Visa says that they will cover collision damage at 100% of the retail cost of the damage/replacement as long as we waive the insurance option at the rental agency to make them the primary coverage in Mexico. I checked with Hertz as an example of agency insurance and they said that their $18/day insurance covers 90% of the damage/replacement as long as we make them the primary insurer. Visa seems the best option but others have told me not to rely on that insurance entirely. ??????
