Recommendation for a Monteverde hotel?

Any recommendation for a hip, unique experience hotel in Monteverde??

Cost isn't that big an issue if it's a really unique experience.

Will be taking the jeep-boat-jeep from Arenal.

Thanks!

Take a look of Monteverde Rustic Lodge, a nice place to stay and very friendly host and also Historias Lodge. Both are small hotels, but with a friendly people there.

We stayed at Sapo Dorado. They have 3 types of rustic cabins on the mountainside. We stayed in a valley view cabin and our friends stayed in a cabin with a fireplace. The restaurant on the property was great.

I can't comment on hip...but Monteverder Rustic Lodge was wonderful and very reasonable. We stayed there in May 2010 and had a great experience. Jose is extremely helpful and it is within walking distance of town. If you need a taxi after dinner, it is only a couple of dollars.

We did the jeep-boat-jeep to Arenal, as Monteverde was our first stop. It might be helpful to know where you stayed in Arenal to guage what type of lodging you prefer.

I don't know if any lodging in Monteverde is hip, but we really liked Fonda Vela. Beautiful grounds and close to the reserve. The new junior suites are huge and have nice views and a small frig and bathtub.

I'm thinking of skipping Monteverde all together. The accomodations look expensive and dumpy (tripadvisor invokes hotel from Psycho for many reviews).

In Arenal I am staying 2 nights alone in Hotel San Bosco and then 2 nights in Tabacon springs when my travel partner gets into Costa Rica.

Most of the places in Monteverde seem kind of basic compared to more developed areas of CR. We liked Monteverde but haven't felt a huge pull to go back there like we have for some other spots.
