Recent weather and road conditions

Hello,

My husband and I are leaving for CR on Sat., and we were planning on driving from SJ to Sierpe. I read that the roads from Quepos to Dominical have been washed out, does anyone know how the roads from Dominical south to Sierpe held up? Just wondering if we should consider flying down there now. Thanks!

Hi laureenc, I just noticed your post. Have a great trip. I don't have an answer for you, but this region has been discussed recently on the lonely planet board, you may want to do a search there.

Any update on the weather and the bridges??

Just back from Costa Rica, what a wonderful adventure. We drove from MA to Dominical the roads were being actively repaired and were down to one passable lane in places. The weather was beautiful and dry along the coast this being said the dirt roads were very dusty which made passing large trucks nearly impossible as they kicked up a blinding dust storm. At one point during our journey we came upon a river were the bridge was out and took our chances crossing the river in our rental SUV. It was relatively easy (albeit scary) but I wouldn't want to try this crossing in a car or after a heavy rain.

I too wondered about the road from Quepos to Dominical, so I emailed AM Costa Rica to see if they had any updated info.

They replied "the road is open to four-wheel drive
vehicles but you have to ford the Río Portalón. The damage waas extreme."

I'll be heading down to that area in a week. Anyone know if the village still needs items. Saw that they had plenty of rubber boots. Possibly sandals and kids shoes?

Suzie - Lisa may have some info regarding this. But I do remember that Robbie Felix - owner of Hotel California in MA - has been much involved in this crisis. You may want to drop her an email or call.

Thanks Donna. We are already hauling a bunch of stuff down for Kim so adding another container of items won't be a big deal if they need anything. We'll be passing through there on our first day. Sounds like we will be able to get through okay with Orlando's 4x4.

You are welcome Sue. And yes from what AM Costa Rica is reporting the 4X4 should make it. Wish I were going, tell Kim I miss BdC everyday!

Oh and Robbie Felix was the person that put our wedding together - 2002.
