Reasonable driver rate

I want to hire a driver for a half day in the Alajuela area to take me to Sarchi, Grecia. I received a quote of $60. That seems high. What do you think? Any suggestions?

For a half day? I'd say that sounds reasonable. You may get a taxi there, and one back, for less, but the driver will be able to take you to the better places, hold your shopping in the van, etc.

Sounds really reasonable to me. Most drivers go out of their way to do a nice job and make sure you're safe so if you are taking up the majority of that driver's daylight hours, I don't think $60 is excessive once you subtract fuel costs, etc.

Maybe you are really asking about average rate or market rate. "Reasonable" seems sort of vague and is likely to differ according to whether you are are the payer or the payee.

Perfectly reasonable. With gas at about $5-6 a gallon that isn't bad at all. I went horseback riding, Sarchi, and Grecia for a whole day and it cost me $100 a few years ago. I agree that it is nice to have a driver that will watch your stuff in the van. You might want to go to Grecia first so you don't have to leave anything in the van. You can then take the driver into the stores with you to help carry all the loot :-).
