Hi Cindy!
I am a venezuelan woman and I just read your notification. I can recommend you the best beaches of Venezuela:
Los Roques Island: these are really beautiful beaches with clear waters and corals. To get there, you have to take a small airplane. The island is very small but it has all the services you need. If you need some other informaation, tell me.
Morrocoy. beautiful beaches of a National Park. There are unpollluted beaches.
Puerto La Cruz y Margarita: there are touristic destinations in Venezuela. The most beautiful and unpolluted beaches are a little away but it is not so hard to find them.

Thanks for being interested in Venezuela
América

I have to disagree with America - having visited Ven. twice (1990 and 1998), I was appalled at the change and the polution. Puerto la Cruz has grown at an alarming rate and is now a huge city - unfortunately, their plumbing has not kept up with their growth. It was expensive and dirty as was most of the Carribean side of Ven. In 1990, I would have recommended it to anyone - now, I recommend it to no one. Garbage everywhere and very, very expensive. Try somewhere else.

Visited the island of M.I. in venezuela and loved it. For nice clear waters just stay on a resort away from the city centre and you'll be find. Like any country other than your own the cities are indeed polluted and dirty but thats reality the resorts are excellent. For night adventures and shopping just take a cab and get the price arranged with the driver ahead of time of course if you dont tell him/her to leave they will wait for you all day long and charge you accordingly. The hotel staff and travel rep in the resort will give you places to go, its in their interest to look after the guests so the suggestions they give you are right on.

I know that this is a bit delayed, but I just returned from Caracas, and although we had a wonderful time when visiting with our friends who are Venezuelan, on the one afternoon that we did a little sightseeing on our own, we were robbed. Six men jumped my boyfriend, put him on the ground and forcibly removed a watch from his wrist. This was in broad daylight with lots of people around.

And, our friends who are Venezuelan advised us that under no circumstances should we go out at night without a local escort. It is dangerous there.

well if you go into certain parts of any city this will happen. I was there for a month a tall blonde guy I stuck out but not one problem. You need to be smart your first mistake was to wear your watch, you need to be wiser. I even lost my passport and it was returned by taxi driver who went home two hours away... BE SMART WEREVER YOU ARE!!!!!!!

My girlfriend is from Venezuela. We took a trip down there recently. We went to the Marine park of Morrocoy, right outside the city of Tucacas. Had a great time, seemed very safe to me. We stayed in a hotel there (can't remember the name, but it was relatively new and on the main drag). Cost $US 65.00/night. The hotel folks will direct you to daily tours of remote cays, which are relatively inexpensive ($US 20 maybe?). The tour group that we went with was called something like Yakare ecotours. We went to Sombrero Cay. As we got off the boat, we had to walk through some mangroves to get to the beach. I distinctly recall one guy shouting "Paradiso!" (paradise) when he first saw the beach.

There's a great seafood restaurant on the main drag, again, can't remember the name, something like mariscal or mariscos? Try the local cheese.

Don't waste your time with any type of public toilet. The hotel's plumbing was quite satisfactory, however.

Also, see a doc ahead of time; get an antimalarial (which you won't need, but better to be safe than sorry) and an antibiotic to combat stomach problems (which you may need).

Have fun. It was one of the best trips of my life.
