Rainsong Animal Sanctuary - Montezuma

I came across this place reading someone's trip report and wonder if any of you have been there and can offer comments.

It looks very well organized and I think we'll visit this July to check it out.

Thanks!

Hip, this looks very interesting. Thanks for sharing. I'd like to go visit as well when we are there in August.

I'll definitely report back when I return and give you more info. I thought the information on the stories of the animals themselves plus discussion on the causes be it electrical lines, poachers, nets, etc., was very well put together.

Hey hip. I found this thread 'cuz I'm considering volunteering for a week at the end of July. Have you decided if you're going? Got any new info?

I'm going, but it won't be until the 1st week of July. Assume you'll already have decided by then...? I'll post back anyway. Looks great! Be sure and let us know how it goes if you do it.

For what it's worth, there is a very damning post about Rainsong on Lonely Planet/Thorn Tree. You might want to check it out. It has me a little nervous, I must admit.

I read those. But I also read some other very positive blogs from volunteers helping the development of the project. Funny that of the 3 negative reviews I've read in the past two days they all mention something about the owner. Reading between the lines the owner sounds maybe gruff and old? Anyway, the volunteer facilities don't sound any different than some others I've read about...and seen in once instance. I would think these orgs would be hard to manage with volunteers, minimal staff and lack of funds. That said, I hope my visit an inquiries there will turn out to be positive. Since they allow drop in's during open hours (no appointments necessary) and only ask for $5 donations at least I can see their not in business for the money.
