rain in guanajuato

Hello Everyone!
I am starting a new post because I am a pain in the ... and wasn't sure if people would go back to my old post to answer this question. I am planning on being in Guanajuato 26 May to 09 June I looked at the weather and it looked like it would be okay. Now I am concerned that we will get a lot of rain. I hate rain. So I am once again asking for your valuable input what sort of weather we would most likely get at the time we are going? Someone had mentioned it was the rainy season but it mostly rained at night. Thanks!

I just did a quick Google ("Guanajuato rainfall") and May looks OK, but June gets real wet real fast and stays that way thru September.

It's the Mountains (6,000') so rain is always a possibility.
I spent January/February 2013 there & it rained about 4 times. May should be similar but keep in mind it's normally an afternoon shower of short duration. The real rainy season does not normally begin until mid June.

Whew! I did look at the weather before planning the trip and it looked ok but then when I heard people say it pours, I got worried. I can handle a short burst of rain but not a full day for days. Since then I have looked at every forecast I can find and it does look like June gets the worst of it so I am hoping May will hold out for us. Thanks for replying

<<I can handle a short burst of rain but not a full day for days.>>

There's just no guarantees about weather when you travel in Mexico. I vacation most often in Puerto Vallarta. And I once was stuck in a 5 day "monsoon" in March (which is normally dry) but had beautiful weather in June (which is typically beginning of the rainy season).

May is hot and dry here. A rule of thumb is that June brings some relief from some 5 months (typically) with little rain. As mentioned, our rainy season (here in San Miguel an hour from GTO) consists of maybe an afternoon shower ever other day. It may last 10 minutes, it may last an hour. Days and days of rain just doesn't happen.

Baldone, I was looking at acuweather and it showed thunderstorms and rain for the time I will be there, now I would rather take the opinion of someone who lives there over that so I thank you for your comments. I live in a place where it does nothing but rain so when I go away I desperately try to avoid it, I know this sounds weird but a lot of rain will ruin my holiday. Thanks!!

I was just getting ready to change destinations so your reply came just in time!

I also looked at Accuweather. "Partly sunny, a few showers" is a pretty vague forecast, but surprisingly accurate. That's pretty much the norm during the so-called rainy season. But whatever rain we do get is often very isolated. We live about 10 minutes from centro in San Miguel, and it can rain quite hard here for 20 minutes or so, but centro will have received just a sprinkle. Or vice versa. It is true that GTO's weather is not the same as SMA, but pretty close. Here is an interesting link to our weather that gives a very detailed history: http://mapaverdesanmiguel.org/weathe....php?locale=en If you look at June's rainfall for '12 & '11, you'll see that about half of the month's rain fell on just 2 or 3 days. And hardly anything until the second half of the month. Sop, odds are you'll be fine.

thanks that makes me feel a lot better!
