rain forests near beaches?
 

are there any rainforests near the beach areas? what's the best area to stay in where you can experience the beaches and the rainforests without travelling to far between them? thanks.

Osa Penninsula (although the beaches are not "resort type" beaches there) or Manuel Antonio which has the perfect combination of both. There may be some other less known places but generally you need to stay somewhere south of Jaco on the Pacific coast. There may be some other places on the Carribean side but I don't know anything about those.<BR>In general, you won't need to travel too far between the beach and rainforest anywhere in Costa Rica - it's a small country and domestic flights are all in the 20 minutes to 1 hour range.

I've heard Jaco is a bad place for tourist because that's the worst place for theft in Costa Rica. <BR>

Most beaches are close to some kind of jungle. If your looking for a romantic place - Try Manuel Antonio, with kids Tamarindo or camping in Cahuita National Park right on the beach. The jungle comes right up to the beach there and you can get a company to set it all up for you. If it is a bunch of friends who are looking to party, try puerto viejo or Montezuma. Montazuma has a couple of very pretty waterfalls that you can hike to. I live in Manuel Antonio for just this reason...We are in the heart of the rainforest and yet at the beach. And Manuel Antonio beach is one of the most beautiful white sand beaches in Costa Rica...The other benefits ofthis area include a mountain of choices in lodging ,restaurants, activities that run the gamut from mountainbiking to ocean activities. We have a nice little town in Quepos with 5 banks , grocery stores, shops, restaurants and nightlife. It's only a few miles from the beach. On the principle road between the beach and the town are plenty of lodging options that range from inexpensive cabinas to 4 star hotels, like ours....Best wishes, enjoy , Costa Rica is definitely one of themost beautiful places on earth. <BR>Robbie <BR>
