Rafting with kids

Has anyone rafted the Pacuare with kids? I know the minimum age is 12, but my 10 year old son is as tall and big as most 13 year olds. There's not a roller coaster that he won't go on.

We've never been rafting before anywhere. We want to go on the Pacuare trip as much for the beauty as the excitement. There are calmer (cat II/III) trips elsewhere, but I'm afraid we'll be bored.

Any advice?

I would NOT want to take an 8 year old on a class IV! I believe the age limit is 12 for any reputable company and it's not solely based on size. Children below age 11 have a much different perception on depth, speed and reflexes and judgement. The company that qwovadis posted is Class III Sarapaqui, age 8 and ClassIV Pacuare, age 12.

Thanks. I want to be able to enjoy the trip so we'll look for a class II/III route. Any opinions on the differnece between Sarapaqui and Siquirres?

We just did the Pacuare last week, and the guide with Adventures Naturales said they don't take younger than 12, but very occasionally in the dry season if the river is low they would consider slightly younger kids. But normally, they don't and I wouldn't advise it based on what we just did. Try Class III instead, and I bet you'll have fun.
