Rafting in Costa Rica

Who are the best guides for a full day rafting trip that would depart from San Jose? Any information on how to get in touch with them would also be extremely helpful. Thanks everyone!

Zach: I can highly recommend Aventuras Naturales (www.adventurecostarica.com). The guides were excellent and they safety seriously. I have also heard really good things about Rios Tropicales (www.riostropicales.com). Both offer day trips from San Jose.
Have fun!

I am not a travel agent like the previous guy, but I also would highly recommend Coast to Coast Adventures. I did the three day rafting trip with them and it was great fun! If you want it, here is their website (directly) on their one day rafting trip... http://www.ctocadventures.com/justafewdays.html#raft1

Hi,
Like other posters, I have heard great things about Costa Rica Rios Aventuras. We were deciding between this company and another company on our recent trip to CR and wish we had gone with Rios Aventuras.

We booked with another company for a day trip on the Pacuare; they told it was a 9-5 day with lunch included. They picked us up at our lodge in Turrialba, but did not tell us until *after* we paid, got in the van, checked out the kayak, that we would be doing Reventazon instead of Pacuare due to the heavy rains. We took it all in stride, thinking the trip would be similar. However, we were only actually rafting from about 11am -12:15 (this part was thrilling!), then 1-hour lunch break, then rafting again from 1:15-2pm and it was over! We were really disappointed and felt like the guy was trying to "pull one over on us." Also, his advertised rates for the Reventazon are lower than his rates for the Pacuare (the run he does on Reventazon is about 7km shorter) and he never offered to return some of the money to us.

Next time, we will go with a different outfitter.

Hi Terri,
You say that you wish you had gone with Rios Adventuras. Which company did you go with and had such a bad experience? I am currently looking into rafting trips and want to find a good tour.

We used Ticos River Adventures. (They were listed in our Adventures in Nature/Costa Rica guide and I think they are in Lonely Planet as well.)

But get a good outfitter and definitely go rafting....even with the disappointment in our trip being cut short, we really enjoyed the first hour or so of rafting (me) and kayaking (my husband).....
