Quiet hotel near downtown PV
 

My husband and I are planning a quick getaway without our kids. We are looking for a place to relax and chill, prefer not AI. No loud pool or bar scene, but just a mellow place to relax. Am considering Villa Premiere, which looks lovely. Any other suggestions that might be less expensive? A/c and a nice pool are priorities.

Villa Premiere is excellent. In the same area (north of downtown) look at El Pescador and Hotel Rosita. On the south side on Los Muertos look at The Tropicana or Playa Los Arcos (Dona Susana, Los Arcos Suites). Casa Andrea is a nice B&B that area. Los Cuatro Vientos is a beautiful little hidden gem.

I think the 'loud pool or bar scene' applies more to places in the Hotel Zone or the mega resorts out in Nuevo Vallarta. I've never seen that in the regular hotels around town.

Villa Premiere is a luxury, boutique hotel, many less-expensive options would certainly not be in the same 'class'.

I could suggest Casa Dona Susana - it's also a small, adults-only, boutique hotel, but it's a budget property, and certainly not to be (or should not be) considered in the same class as Villa Premiere. Since fall, 2007, we have stayed at Los Arcos Suites (the other sister property of Playa Los Arcos, and located directly across the street from Casa Dona Susana). We much-enjoy both properties - though we stay at the Suites, we use the rooftop courtyard and pool at Susana daily, for most of our quiet times - sunning, pool time, reading, and generally relaxing. It's a very lovely spot, and so well-worth the price of admission of a stay at Susana!!

If you are willing to stay further inland, and away from a beach, there are several quality, more upscale, boutique hotels -- two that come most-readily to mind, and are less expensive than a property such as Villa Premiere, would be Casa Isabel and Hacienda Alemana. The former has a high, up on a hill location, the latter, a down-to-earth location, adjacent to the German restaurant of the same name - both in the city's south side -- walks away from Los Muertos beach, and a great many options for dining.

As were mine. In now way, were my comments meant to be a criticism of yours.
I was just responding to the criteria posted by our original poster.

i know i know, i'm not offended! all our suggestions are very good ones (if i do say so myself -haha) and fit their criteria, BUT depending if more modest is OK as long as there's air-con and a nice pool, like Rosita, Los Arcos, Tropicana... or if they really would like a little more luxury like Villa Premiere, or one of the more high-end B&B's like Casa Isabel.

One thing to know about Cuatro Vientos is the pool is miniscule and it's a long way from the beach. Don't get me wrong, I like that hotel, but I think those two things might be negatives for many people.

Los Cuatro Vientos pool is small (12 x 6) but very deep (7') & cold. It is seldom busy actually often empty. It does feel wonderful after a day of hiking the town.
The reason I love this hotel is the View, the hostess, the lovely simple rooms but most of all the peace & quite which as I read the OP was a high requirement. Ad to this the excellent restaurant, social hour & the Breakfast gathering which you may or may not wish to join in. I have established friendships at this hotel that are still strong after 2 plus decades. Just a very special place.

It IS a very special place, Stewbear. I agree. But the pool doesn't have loungers, or chairs, or a place to sit. It's right at the entrance of the hotel. Just saying if someone likes to lay around relaxing in a lounger reading or whatever during the day, and is picturing a resort type pool, that isn't it. A refreshing plunge, yes.

Thanks everyone. You gave us a lot to think about. Right now leaning towards Villa Premiere, since prices are so reasonable in PV and we would enjoy this splurge. I am still looking at some of the b and b's and may be back with questions.
