The agent has called back with possible reservation one nite at Posada Yucay in Sacred Valley.

Has anyone stayed here and what is your opinion of this hotel?

GrannyJoan, haven't heard of it, but the reviews on Tripadvisor are pretty mixed.

Ask your tour operator to check into the Valle Sagrado Lodge. I haven't stayed there, but we had a wonderful lunch there last August. And the Libertador is sending its guests there while it is under renovation.

Are you going on a tour with a group of people so they only use one or two hotels? If so, could you separate from the group for a few days and get a credit. I found it very easy to book my own accomodations and trains and worked with the local hotels to arrange guides.

Yes, we would be going with a group and the Sol del Luna is booked and they are trying to get another hotel near where we could stay for just the one night.

Have not confirmed this new hotel yet as not sure if my plane reservations will be the same times and price as quoted when first trying to book this trip.

Should hear back from TA on Thurs as to whether all arrangements are doable for end of July trip.

Not sure I want to commit on this hotel before I am positive I have the same plane fares and travel times as before. They cancelled the hold in flights when they couldn't get hotels and will have to try and rebook them again at this late date.

I will mention the hotel you suggested.

Trip is booked. Now to continue with the planning. Trying to get excited about this trip again.

Yes, we took the Natural Habitat Adventure to Churchill in Canada to see the Polar Bears a couple of years ago. It was a good trip overall.

GrannyJoan -- during our trip we stayed 1 night at the Sonesta Posada in Yucay. As per the other reviewers on the Trip Advisor I agree the grounds are lovely. Our room was fine; didn't encounter the shower problem that was described in one of the reviews, nor did any bugs make their way into our room (or at least, not that I was aware of!).

I enjoyed our dinner at the restaurant. That's where I tried alpaca. Tastes similar to lamb, and it was good. That culinary adventure was much better than when I tried 'cuy' in last August in Ecuador. Although I have gotten alot of mileage from telling people I've eaten guinea pig, it's not a "do again" for me. On the other hand, I'd definitely have another alpaca meal. AND, alledgedly, it's supposed to be low cholesterol meat.

Back to the hotel itself . . . . my only issues were:

(1) door/key -- the door to our room was OLD (old-world charm), with a lock & key that we had to fumble with to get closed. As for level of security, well, the property itself is enclosed and Yucay is a tiny town;
(2) vendors in the courtyard, outside restaurant. They allow vendors to set up & sell merchandise (textiles, bags, rugs, etc) in an area that's between the restaurant and several of the rooms. Our room happened to be in this location. Although they certainly weren't aggressively hawking their wares as does the group outside the front entrance to the hotel, I would have preferred them not to be there. However, it is very convenient to have them there if you want to do a bit of shopping.
