Avrooster.... oh I'm a very loyal person.. I wouldn't dream of changing..
I'm just leaving for work, but the very instant I get home, I will read the REAL thread! I want to be an informed president. I stayed up too late last night reading the FODOR'S book. SO much to see and do....

avrooster, I just finished reading ALL of your REAL BA tour post.
Now what kind of a president would I be if I didn't want to take such a great tour???
How kind of you!! I think it's a great idea.
But even the president can't expect to make a date so far in advance!! I will see if we can arrange something closer to my trip date.
Another question. Although I don't speak or understand Spanish very well, I'm used to the Mexican accent. Will I have trouble in Argentina? DO you speak spanish with a totally different accent?

Of course, Ms. President, e-mail me a couple of weeks in advance. We speak Spanish differently, but that does not mean you won't be understood or that you won't understand what is being said to you. It's a different accent or pronunciation, not a different language.

kodi: A couple of things I remember about differences in Spanish pronunciation was for example ella-- instead of aya it's more like asha (wish I could speak these to you rather than trying to write them). Also usted is mostly used when talking to an older person, familiar tense in everyday conversation. Hope I'm correct about this--am I AVRooster?

Yes, Giovanna, but my point is that these differences don't mean kodi won't understand or be understood.

Thank you both the toeh advice. I'm really terrible at languages and always have been. BUT I did study Spanish many years ago and it's the only language where I even have a clue. SO every bit helps.

If you have taken Spanish, you will be in the habit of pronouncing he double ll's as a y sound.
But if I forgot, no one said anything and still knew what I was saying. It is just something that one has to remember and the best way is to just speak Spanish as much as possible.
So when you order pollo, ask for pozho ~gt;

Thanks Scarlett.
I have no idea what words I was trying to type in my last response! See, my fingers have enough trouble in English!!

I'll have to learn all my favourite cuts of beef in Spanish. I can't wait to have steak!

Marling Menu-Master for Spain
A tiny bit different from some Argentine dishes but the words will help you with cuts of beef, different dishes etc.
Fits in your pocket, easy to use. I don't eat red meat so it is very handy for me when I get the word for brains or salad confused lol.

Kodi

The real Buenos Aires tour is just that...a chance to see a side of Buenos Aires that most tourists do not see...while AV bills the sites you will see and that he will tell you about as the Real Buenos Aires...what is even more REAL is AV Himself....an authentic Argentine...not bashful about expressing his opinions (he is frequently wrong but never it doubt)....Do not miss an opportunity to spend an evening with AV...it will be the highlight of your trip.

Scarlett, thanks for the name of the Menu-Minder. I had not heard of these books, but I will buy it for sure. I love steak and look forward to Argentina beef, but I would absolutely die if I accidentally put organs in my mouth. YUK...

Dr, after reading all of AV's post on the 'Real Tour', I had decided it would be a wonderful opportunity. Thanks for confirming my decision. HOpefully AV will be availaable when I get to Buenos Aires.

I would prefer tee-shirts like:

“I went on The Real Buenos Aires Tour and survived! It was extremely fun tour.

I could see myself walking around the streets of New York City wearing it.

Am also heading to BA in 2 weeks and husband wants to see tango shows. Is this something that we need to book ahead or can we just appear at the place? Thanks in advance!

Estimado Don Av!!

First you fire me (I better check with the Department of Labour as perhaps I am entitled to some kind of "indemnizacion" for the despido sin causa..) - then you say I am too serious..

And just when I was about to tell everyone how Av was not interested in being famous - he's just a very helpful individual who wants to show visitors his city from a local's. perspective!! But who's going to believe me???
