Questions about Acapulco
 

Hey
I've already done a good deal of reading about things to do and such for my trip to Acapulco
I have a few more questions
What is the best and cheapest way to get to/from the airport/hotel. I don't mind the bus. Is that reliable? Staying on Aleman/Costera
Can you recommend day trips/places that I can go off the beaten path and away from the hustle and bustle? Best way to get there?
Any nice quiet reasonable restaurants you can recommend? Prefer mariscos/mexican
Any nightclubs that are not packed to the rafters, chill and friendly?
What about nature/rain forests? That is definitely on my list. Best way to get there? Guided tour?

I guess I'm looking for help on enjoying Acapulco while trying avoid noisy crowded places.
I know, its probably the wrong city but I'm going to enjoy it all the same.

I'm not sure why but Acapulco seems to have a lot less information on the internet than other spots like Puerto Vallarta, Cabo San Lucas, Playa del Carmen.

You might try Trip Advisor? I know their PV & Cabo forums are very active (in the destinations forums section, formatted similar to Fodor's, not the hotel reviews part).

One of the most fascinating area's is south of Acapulco called Costa Chica which is populated by descendent's of escaped slaves. legend has it that they escaped from a ship wreck. They live in African style housing but speak pure Spanish. There has be little assimilation between the Hispanic residents & these people. To visit the coastal villages requires a 4 wheel drive vehicle & a guide unless you are fluent in Spanish.

If you want a nice uncrowded beach for an afternoon where you can horseback ride on the beach and enjoy some nice little restaurants right on the beach, try Pie de la Cuesta just outside Acapulco. Although be aware you can not swim in the surf there due to undertow.

I may be in the minority but I like Acapulco.

There's a 1-page article on Pie de la Cuestra in the Feb '10 issue of Budget Travel magazine, that made me want to hop on a plane!

I live in a working class community a few miles outside of Acapulco. As for airport transportation, there are no buses that go directly from the airport to the Costera. If you have luggage it would be safer to use the registered Airport transportation service. As others have mentioned, Pie de la Cuesta is a nice sidetrip. Some less crowded beaches are Caleta and Puerto Marques. Bus transportation in Acapulco is reliable and cheap--about 50 cents US. The blue and white VW taxis cost around $4 and there are yellow and white colectivo taxis that you share with others and have a set route that cost about $1. Can't give you much advice on restaurants because I always eat at home. If I can be of any more help, let me know.
