Question for Avrooster

Hello, Av, I´m sitting in B.A. this very moment, readying the touring bicycle and ancillary gear for a trip around your country. I´m headed for Medoza and Bariloche and back. Couple of questions for you, if I may.

Is beef jerky unknown in Argentina? I´ve tried to explain the stuff in my limited Spanish and have met with blank looks, nor have I seen it in any of the markets. Odd for a beef-loving country.

What is Coleman camping fuel (NOT propane or butane) called in local Castelleno? Again, no one is quite sure what I´m trying to find.

I´ll be posting some observations of the BA portion of this trip a bit later.

TIA

Jeff

I am unable to answer your translation request, and I'm sure AV will, but would think you should be able to find some sort of camping fuel in BsAs for your Coleman compatible camping stove.
Remember, you can always use good old-fashioned "white gas" in a Coleman as well.........we used to use it all the time as it was cheaper than Coleman's product. White gas is nothing more than naphtha, and I'd think that would also be available, if you can translate it. The stuff is highly flammable, however.
best,
tptr

We saw beef jerky in many of the supermarkets around the country. Cant remeber what it was called though

Hi, Red Stater!

Lucky you, to tour my country by bike!

I see a couple of good friends have had the cheek (LOL) to answer a question addressed to me, while I slept. Thank you, tptr and Crellston!

About your questions, Red Stater, I haven't a clue! LOL!! But we'll see what I can do.

Concerning "beef jerky", we call it "charqui", so, if it is available, as Crellston says it is, I believe that's what you need to ask for. I suspect it may be easier to find in rural areas.

About your camping fuel, how about: http://www.colemanonline.com.ar/coleman.php

Have a great time in our country.

About that Coleman link above, they don't seem to be retailers, but they should be able to tell you where you can get what you want.

Two places which are supposed to have Coleman products:

Deport Camping
Av. Santa Fe 4830
Phone: 4772-0534

Hammer, somewhere in the area of Uruguay 600.

OK, thanks all. I´ll see if I can find someone selling naptha.

Spent the night in Lujan, at the Plaza de Paz. Clean comfortable AC´d room for AR$70. Deal!

Lujan´s worth a visit....amazing cathedral, and a public square larger than, I think, the Plaza de Mayo. None of the museums were open by the time I had to leave, although many looked promising.

Heading for San Antonio de Areco for tonight, forty klicks up the road from where I´m sitting.
