question..but don't want to get flamed!

Hello...sorry but I have some questions before booking a trip such as this to see if we can deal with it. Here goes..
1)toilets.. if you can't flush the toilet paper how does this work? And if you stay at a more upscale/costly place do they have regular toilets that flush?
2)cockroaches..I'm from Maine and we generally don't have them here except in dirty places. I know it's different in CA but what should I expect? I know I should be more concerned about spiders and scorpions but...

Also anyone with specific knowledge of clean affordable accomodations in Arenal and Monteverde for 5 (3 kids) please advise. We cannot afford 2 rooms.
Thanks

Toilets flush but the pipes are smaller and can clog easily so the paper goes in the waste basket --- if you remember. I've even fished it out when I've forgotten the rule. Gross.
The cockroaches are big and fast but are more afraid of you than you are of them. I like to keep my bags zipped when I'm out of the room. Wouldn't want to bring them home with me.
Have a wonderful journey!

It's the same in many places in Mexico. The used toilet paper goes into a small waste basket next to the toilet. The toilets are "regular", it is for the environment that you need to keep the TP out of the sanitary system.

The only place we weren't allowed to flush was at a house we were staying in a village. I found it was not as gross as it would seem.
We stayed at Si Como No. Very clean. And you can flush!
I didn't see a single cockroach or scorpion.

Sorry - I forgot to respond to the 2 room part of your question. The room we stayed in at Si Como No had 1 king size bed, a double bed and a large couch. (Not a pull out) I could see fitting 5 people in there easily.
