PV: Zona Romantica with kids

We have are looking into staying in Puerto Vallarta's Zona Romantica with our kids 8 and 11. We love the look of the area, but are unsure how well it will work for kids (things for them to do, access to beaches, etc.) Any thoughts?

This means nothing to us, but the condo is at the intersection of Manuel Diegas and Jacarundas, South of the river Cuale, about 8 blocks from the ocean.

I rented a condo in that area one trip (mission san francisco homes). It was a little far from the beach for my taste (that 8 blocks is a bit of a hike) and also a bit far to get over to El Centro. Certainly do-able, but you don't just "run back to the room" like you might from some hotel or apartment locations.

Generally speaking in Zona Romantica I see lots of families with kids, who sure seem to be having a great time. Your closest local beach is Playa Los Muertos where you'll find innertube and boogie board rentals, food and souvenier vendors, banana boats and parasailling, palapa bar restaurants.

Rizo's is a nice 2-story supermercado you can use to stock the condo.

I don't have kids myself but am very familiar with this neighborhood so if you have other questions i might help with, ask away...

Thanks Suze. Thoughts much appreciated. Turns out we will probably opt for something closer to where rest of the family is (corner of pipila and matamorasn. of river). They said the two locations are 20+ minute walk apart, which seems a bit too far.

We would also love any pointers on getting cheap tickets from DC! We are seeing prices about $600

Thanks

I'm guessing you will be happier being closer. I think the two addresses are at LEAST 20 mins. distance apart on foot and walking in PV is not always easy (high curbs, steps, bridges, cobblestones, traffic, etc.)

Where ever you end up there's loads of fun stuff for kids to do. I don't think that'll be a problem. Have a great trip!

Sorry no tips on good airfare I typically give $500-$700 from Seattle.

HI: For the kids Jacarandas is a bit of a walk to everything. You want to be near the Malecon for evening fun and entertainment as well as the beach for day use. Something closer to the River and on Los Muertos Beach would be ideal. It is an easy walk over the Malecon extension bridge to "El Central." For super food and great fun, be sure to go to PiPi's restaurant on Pipila (3 blocks away from the ocean) when in PV.
