purchasing Star Peru tickets
Has anyone had difficulty purchasing tickets online with Star Peru? I can't get my Visa card to go through becuase it says it has to be a verified by Visa card. I registered my card with mt bank online to be verified by visa but can't get transaction to go through. Frustrated. Any advice on another way to book or what you did to make it work? Only have one Visa card and it is actually a debit card that processes like a visa.

www.apunake.com always works for me.

I had the same problem with my 2 BofA Visas. It wouldn't go through. Are you making multiple trips within Peru? We opted to get the South American Airpass from Lan Airlines...and it cost us $116 more total (not per person) to fly LAN. Plus from what I've read on this forum, LAN seems to be a very reliable airline to fly with. I decided that combined with the headache I was getting from trying to use the Star Peru website was worth the money...
I think the other option is having a travel agent buy the ticket for you, but that would cost more than you purchasing the tix yourself. IMHO, I think that Verified by Visa "benefit" is a huge pain. |
I realize that this is an old topic, but has anyone in the US had luck purchasing tickets on Star Peru's website? Just from reading through this post and others, it seems it is very difficult, if not impossible, to do with an American credit card.
I am not running into the same problem as the above poster (with the Verified by Visa issue), as I am trying to use a Mastercard. However, each time I try to purchase tickets the website takes me through the whole process including entering my credit card information, but when I go to complete the transaction I get the following error message: "“Dear customer, at the moment we cannot attend your request; nevertheless your reservation has been fulfilled and it will be active for 6 hours. In order to complete your purchase please visit any of our offices” I tried calling Star Peru's number in the US (my phone wouldn't let me dial the Peru number) and they weren't sure what the problem was. They offered to take care of the transaction over the phone but the ticket price was more than offered online. Is this a problem with American credit cards or maybe just a temporary problem with their website? Any advice? Thanks! |
Anyone???

Erin, I had the same problem last week. I had to buy a calling card to call their office in Peru since their US based office didn't have access to the reservations made on the website. They stated it was MY credit card company's security features. I called my CC and it was not. I figured that was the case since I tried a MC and Visa and both didn't work. They need to update their website it seems. We ended up booking for a cheaper price on Peru Airlines, which I had never heard of. It was painless.

Diana - thanks! Do you have a link for Peru Airlines? I have never heard of them either...

Does anyone understand why there is such a huge disparity in the prices of Star Peru, Peruvian Airlines, and LAN? I just priced a Lima-Cuzco round trip on all three (for dates in November), and the prices were $130, $282, and $585. I understand from the previous posts in this thread that Star Peru might be a bit sketchier than other airlines, but even so, that is a pretty big price difference.
Also, do these airlines all use electronic ticketing? thanks, Sasha |
LAN charges $178 extra if you are not a local resident. They have newer planes and an international network and reputation.
This is an old thread. Do not use Apunake, they ripped a lot of people off when they went "bankrupt". If you try to purchase online you need to notify your bank and credit card co that you are making an overseas purchase. Also do not use a free email account, eg hotmail, yahoo. You might try an Amex card also, if you have one. Sometimes no matter what you do it still won't work. I have had the same problems with LAN purchases. Try to make the reservation and then call them if that happens. |
I spent the last couple of weeks trying to purchase domestic tickets. Could not get any of the three airline sites to let me buy tickets. I finally called Lan Peru (they have a US toll free number) and got my tickets, although about twice the price of the other two airlines.
Someone recommended asking TA Peru for Less to book tickets. I thinkIwould have saved money by doing so, but I waited so long, I just wanted to get it done. |
