Punta del Este beaches

The pictues in/around Punta del Este that I've seen show rather rocky beaches. Is this typical? Is there an area where the beaches are less rocky? Rocky beaches are not a show-stopper, just want to be prepared. Anyone have a favorite hotel in the moderate price range? Thanks for any/all information.

I don't know but I have a friend who has a home there and from his descriptions and photos I have seen, the beaches are pristine and beautiful.
White sandy beaches and blue blue water is what I heard..I have also heard that hotels now are at premium prices and mostly all booked for the season..but not sure of that..

All the photos that I have seen are similar to this..making me think more of Miami than anything :)

I know PUnta del Este very well. There are many beaches all different, all beautiful, most of them are with wide white strips of sand and waves, NO ROCKS, on the other side there are wide stips of sand again and calmer waters, mild waves.NO ROCKS. There are a few spots with rocks but I think that now
it is not even allowed to bath in there. Why would you having miles and miles of beaches. However when we were young there were a few spots with rocks that we went anyway. It was like pools in the middle of the ocean sort of . Have no fear beaches are for what it is know Punta and they are indeed beautiful.

Thanks, Scarlett and Graziella5b. Great info. I'm glad I was misinformed about the rocky beaches. Scarlett, I will book early; we're planning Uruguay for about this time next year, so will start booking in the fall. Looking forward to Punta del Este. Thanks, again.

Graziella is the Uruguay expert. From what our friend tells me, it is just beautiful and I think you will have a wonderful time. Will you visit Buenos Aires too? :)

Thanks, Scarlett. We plan to visit BA, Iguzau Falls, and then Uruguay (either MV or Colonia -- or both -- and then Punta del Este). Also, an escantia either in Argentina or Uruguay. We're about a year away, but I love the research -- so the earlier the better!

Hi Scarlet and Kywood, in reality I am no expert. I seldom go to PUnta these days,I happen to live now elsewhere in front of the ocean so I do feel like going anymore and besides I liked more the older days. Not so much a resort but a smaller town with beautiful beaches and lots of pine forests. At those days life was less pretentious and we had a lot of fun being in close touch with nature. But that is another story. The funny thing is that I shall be shortly in Punta for a few days in February for a family reunion. kywood and Scarlet:
I know you will love it.
A car is kind of a must in Punta. The only way to enjoy all the many options that it offers. Good luck.
