Puerto Vallarta Vegetarian
We've finally booked our tickets and are definitely going to PV in early June. Staying in the Zona Romantica at the Playa Los Arcos. Does anyone have any suggestions for vegetarian friendly restaurants? Or any great activities for kids that we shouldn't miss (they're 3 and 5). Thanks for all the help

There are several (vegetarian restaurants) but I'll have to look up names and addresses & post again.
There're some great places for breakfast near your hotel on Basilo Badillo. Fredy's El Tucan at Posada de Roger hotel has a lovely patio and great pancakes, omelettes, etc. And a bit further up the street Memo's Casa de Hotcakes... both on the left side of the street as you're walking inland approx. 3 blocks. Both reasonably priced. |
OK here you go! These are some from my own experience, but others that keep getting mentioned on two PV internet BB's.
Planeta Vegetariano (google this to see reviews) Iturbide 270 near Hildago sidewalk steps north of the cathedral in El Centro Tutti-Fruiti, also El Centro Papaya 3 at two locations: Abasolo 169 (turn in at the Hard Rock Cafe if you're up on the Malecon) and it's 1-1/2 block in on the left. Lovely spot, good for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Lots of vegetarian choices. Olas Altas 485 (this one is very near your hotel but they are owned by different people and I liked the other location much better, but give it a try if it's still there - some things change year to year in PV) La Piazetta is also near your hotel. Rumor has it their veggie pizza is the best. Red Cabbage is in Remance district (25 min. walk inland or bus or taxi), but is excellent. Dinner only. Reservations recommended. Genuine and traditional Mexican with a few vegetarian options. |
One last tip is to go to the supermercado called G. Rizo's. It's south of the bridge a couple blocks in inland a block. You'll see small white signs with blue grocery cart logos pointing the way (or ask, most everyone knows where it is).
They have very inexpensive fresh bakery rolls, and you can get avacados, tomatoes, cheese, onions, etc. to make great sandwiches. Get some juice boxes, chips, cookies, fruit, and you're all set for a picnic. |
