Puerto Vallarta Sheraton vs Marriott HELP!

I just returned from PV and stayed at the Marriott. I was overly impressed with the hotel. It was clean and the pool area was great! My friends are in the process of booking a trip to PV in October and I feel they would love the Marriott but feel that they may be happier if they stayed in the 'Hotel Zone' due to the proximity to town. We were back and forth in cabs twice a day (once for breakfast and then again for dinner) and it may be more convenient for them to be within walking distance to downtown. I understand the Sheraton went though a recent renovation. Does the Sheraton compare to the Marriott? Can you recommend other accomodations in the hotel zone that are comparable to the Marriott? Your help is greatly appreciated.

Also, is the weather good in October? Would the weather in November be better?

re: weather. October is usually the end of the rainy season (usually mid month).
But. this year, who knows? We had a load of rain in Feb. which usually only gives us a sprinkle.
The claimate, she's a'changing!

There is a thread on the Sheraton here. I stayed there before the hurricane and really liked it then. The location, at the very least, is great!

Hi!! Just got back from the Sheraton on Saturday 4/3 stayed a week. Have been going there for the last 15years. There have been quite a few changes. They are up and running but not entirely complete. There was 1 restaurant open but they were open for 3 meals. I would recommend breakfast and lunch but not dinner for what you would pay for dinner there yoyu can eat at any restaurant. the pools are all new and very nice, swim up bars and anything else. the beach has not been cleaned up yet maybe by the time you go everything will be fully complete. We always loved the Sheraton you can walk into town and the help is wonderful. If you need any more info you can email me @[email protected]. Have a nice trip

I haven't stayed at the Marriott so I can't compare it with the Sheraton. I've always stayed at the Sheraton (except last year when it was closed due to the hurricane and stayed at Velas Vallarta in the Marina). The best reason to stay at the Sheraton is it's location. There's a new grocery store two blocks north "Mega" and downtown is a easy walk away. I wore my pedometer this year. It's just under a four mile walk to the Malecon and back. And almost 7 miles if you go south of the river to the Los Muertos beach area. It doesn't really seem like any distance as there's so much to see and we enjoy the walk (helps keep off the holiday weight gain. If it's late you can always cab it or catch the bus if you're tired. There's a great new coffee shop (latte) on the way back from downtown. Just a little hole in the wall, I believe it's called the Coffee House (on east side of street). Don't confuse it with the flashy big window one only a block or so away. The Sheraton is still undergoing some work but is as wonderful as ever. Clean and the whole pool areas have been redone. Rooms are spacious. The toilet paper smells wonderful. There's only one restaurant open but we only had the timeshare breakfast so I can't comment on dining there beyond that (breakfast was good, tons of food and choices-- and free plus the discounts!!!) But then that's the joy of it's location, to be able to walk to all the wonderful restaurants downtown.
We now stay in the timeshare but if you can afford to upgrade to a tower room with a balcony. You get a huge balcony (roof top) and the shower has a glass wall looking out to the balcony and the ocean beyond. I don't think the parasailers can see in!!!. Also butler service, we weren't in our room 10 minutes and the butler knocked on our door with champagne. Nice cosy bath robes too. It also included a continental breakfast and evening champagne and hors derves (excuse the spelling). I can't comment on the weather as I always go in March. A few favourite places this last trip: Archie's Wok, Andales, La Dolce Vita, Pipi's and Panorama (get the concierge to call and make your reservations for Panorama).

We just returned from 10 days at the Sheraton. We had a great time. The hotel is beautiful and the pools are really fantastic. The beach is still very rocky from the hurrican, but there were chairs out and many people sat at the beach. There is still only one restaurant open and should be avoided for dinner. The proximity to town is unbeatable. Please e-mail me if you need more information. Had very good dinners at Los Milagros, Las Polomas (our family favorite) and El Panaroma.
