Puerto Vallarta restaurants
hola my PV interested friends-
I want to mention a few restaurants from my trip to Vallarta last week. This in no way is against any of the many places I don't list, just a few personal highlights from this most recent trip... Joe Jack's Fish Shack on B. Badillo 212 is doing great. Nice upstairs patio. Excellent grilled dorado/mahimahi, fish tacos, and ceviche. Chicken was delicious also. Pineapple or ginger were amazing mojito specials. Lunch and dinner. Mama Delores, on Olas Altas between R. Gomez and Pulpito is definitely going to give the two long time "best breakfast in town" spots a run for their money in that part of town. My raspberry crepe was fantastic and the eggs benedict one table over looked amazing. Actually all the food looked very very good and I like they have small portions available (not that I had one!) like a one egg breakfast. Very well priced. Good coffee too. Dee's Coffee on R. Gomez between Olas Altas and Amapas. I had fresh, interesting sandwiches to go but the desserts looked killer and all beautifully made. Free internet with purchase. Picnic at Pulpito No 154. Good location for a stop on the way home from Playa Los Muertos. Burgers, sandwiches, nice veranda seating. Summer hours just 11-6 so have to make a point of getting there over lunch time. Fredy's El Tucan at the Posada Roger hotel on B. Badillo stays high on my list of favorites, thru the years. Eating on the patio there is lovely. It is a long time successful business built from hard work and caring, and it shows. All breakfasts, omlettes, Mexican style preparations, smoothies, etc. are delicious. Highly recommend The River Cafe, Isla Rio Cuale, for the vocalist and guitar player in the lounge in the evenings. Did not have dinner there but I can see why others have said nice things about the restaurant over the years. It's a classic. Subtle attentive service. And a special thanks to the Los Cuatro Vientos, Chez Elena ladies who let us go up to their El Nido rooftop bar, even though it had closed for the season "yesterday", when we showed up to watch the sunset there one evening. My one non-recommendation is Si Senor. The service was obnoxious, the food only just OK, the menu expensive and they try to push stuff on you. |
Oops, forgot another good one... La Piazzetta at the corner of R. Gomez and Olas Altas. Great pizza, pastas, chicken dishes, etc.

Hey Suze Sounds like you had a great time. Will keep in mind a few of these for our next vacation in Nov, we always like to try something new. I think you are the only one who can relate to how much We love P.V. Everyone enjoys all your input. Those pineapple mojitos sound wonderful.

Thanks Suze-you're the expert. I love reading about PV. :)

It was a fantastic trip! Especially since I planned it spur-of-the-moment, barely 10 days before flying down. Stayed in a new-to-me hotel & first time I have had an ocean view which was a treat. June is an excellent time to be in Vallarta. Hot hot hot and humid, with a little rain mostly nights, but nice (better) mix of locals and tourists than in "high-season".
Joe Jack's (imo) is definitely worth a trip to that side of town, regardless of where you are staying. |
...AND the mojitos were 2x1 all day Tues & Sat (at Joe Jack's). I don't know if this is always true or a summer special or what. I saw it advertised in a write-up in the one of the english-language papers.

Hi Suze: I hope you will try "Tony's Please" on your next trip. I forgot the name of the street, about two blocks past insurgentes in old town. I will post the street when I figure it out. I think it is past the "Hacienda" which is by one of the churches --maybe Madero. I get to walking and forget to look at street names.

Sure, please add the address to this list for me and others. I've heard it mentioned. Although honestly I get pretty lazy on vacation and often end up eating at what seems best of what is closest.

Lazaro Cardenas # 446, near Jacarandas. Open 5:30 -11pm, closed Sundays.
Ask for 'Tonio. |
As always, gracias Cabron (i know just the part of town that is)

i wish i had had these suggestions before i left for PV last trip. thanks so much - but will keep on hand for my next trip. especially joe jack's fish shack!! |
De nada Nanabee. So many places I love and am loyal to, but also new ones open or old favorites close. PV is constantly changing. This list is current as of June 17th and simply the places I was at this trip; certainly there are dozens and dozens of other good to great restaurants all over Vallarta.
Also I noticed about myself, where I go changes some by which hotel I'm at. I always stay down near the beach in the old town somewhere, but a few blocks one way or the other influenced where I ended up eating/drinking most often. |
