The icon is a very nice building and it is modern, but close to a lot of restaurants, stores, etc. All walkable. It would keep you out of the major construction going on in the romantic zone and still allow you to be close enough to take a 7.5 peso bus ride or 80 peso taxi ride. (I believe those are the current rates). We have looked at the icon as well but decided we liked the peninsula better for our family. Good luck n your search!

Thanks. I've reserved the little apt in Amapas Beach, but the lady never responded so it dropped. I found this apt in Icon, 5th floor. I also don't like the Hotel Ambience, I love a little building by a small beach, like the one I had reserved just south of the Malecon in Conchas. Everything it's getting booked, so I'm acting fast.
Where in la peninsula do you rent maried11?

Suze, I know the map of PV back and for now, lol. I've been looking at properties for 2 days in HA, ABB, TA.

The peninsula condos, but it is also a high rise, not a small property. It has great pools and is on the beach though.

It seems the Peninsula is close to the Icon.
I wished I've gotten one on a lower floor with front ocean view, but considering we are kind of close I think I got a great deal.

I'm hoping. First time in real Mexico, we usually drive to Baja from San Diego.

Personally I'd got to Puerto Vallarta, then maybe take the bus to Sayulita. Check out this post for ideas on places to visit in Mexico: http://www.americantravelblogger.com...exico-in-2017/

Hi blogger & welcome to Fodor's. You might want to read up on Sayulita at this time. There's been lots of concerns over sickness happening up there this past year or so.

Is anybody around?
We've been here for a week and love it. The Icon is pretty nice apt complex, although in the last 2 days it's getting busier and busier with the New Years celebration coming.

We have an entire week to go and I need some advice filling the days with some activities and places to see with my kids.
So far we've seen Nuevo Vallarta, The Malecon and done some shopping.

We loved zip lining with Los Veranos. Very fun zipping thru the tree canopy.

We also did a evening trip to see Rhythms of the Night dinner show at Las Caletas. Las Caletas can also be done a a fun day trip.

hi pookymimi~ you mean anyone around on Fodor's? or anyone in Puerto Vallarta? -haha-

Hope you have & continue having a great trip. I spent a month in PV back Oct/Nov this year and it was the best trip ever (having that amount of time)!

Have you been to the beach at Playa Los Muertos? In Zona Romantica where the new pier is (very far south end of the Malecon). It's lined with beach bars and restaurants.

There's the botanical gardens to the south of PV. Chico's Paradise and El Eden down that way as well.

You could look at www.superiortoursvallarta.com and see what they offer as day trips or activities. It's a well-respected local company (they also have a physical office in Plaza Romy just off I. Vallarta after you go over the south-bound bridge from Centro into Zona Romantica).

Hi Suze,

Yes, I meant here in PV.
We've been low key, daughter and I enjoyed the beach here while son relaxes away from work in the apt.
We did go to The Malecon for Xmas Eve and couldn't find a restaurant, most were closed. Tonight we are going to stay here and have dinner, there are placing some canopies by the beach, not sure if there is some activity going on tonight. We wanted to adventure to downtown tonight.

Has anybody spent New Years in PV?
Is it The Malecon area worth going tonight?

The biggest street party I know about happens on Olas Altas near the Pier, just in behind the beach. At the far south end of the Malecon in Zona Romantica.

Or just head to Centro if that's what you want to do, the area around the church (with the crown on the top) always has lots of people around.

For special events I'd check the 3 main plazas: Hildago north side of centro, the plaza right in front of the church, and Lazaro Cardenas plaza on the southside where I mentioned in the first paragraph above.

Hi Suze,

We ended up staying at the Icon and went down to the beach close to midnight.
The Icon had a big dinner and party going on and some fireworks. Most Hotels and APt complex had parties, we could see the lights and hear music coming from every end, such a fun night. We were able to see fireworks all along the bay. It was a nice relaxed night, the party went on until 4am I believe.
