The Presidente Inter.Continental is really nice. It is all-inclusive, but a very upscale, more elegant one. The rooms are beautiful, very spacious, and many of them have a jacuzzi in the room! I think that the rates for the jacuzzi in the room are higher then the regular rate though. You could of course pay a difference at the hotel if there is availability for jacuzzi rooms.
It does not have so much noise, activities and shows as other all-inclusive hotels, it is a more quiet one, with a la carte service, room service 24 hours, etc.
The location is good too, on the South side of Vallarta, with the lush vegetation and the mountains on the back and the beautiful sand beach in fron of the hotel. I am sure you will enjoy it a lot. If you have any questions, feel free to let me know.

I can recommend you Café des Artistes, which was acknowledged as one of the 80 best restaurants of the world by the nestlé guide, really beautiful, elegant, romantic and very good food. If you come outside rainy season,do ask for a table in the garden, top-romantic!

Hi Don, There is a Crown Paradise Resort in Puerto Vallarta. It is located conveniently, right next to the cruise port, in the hotel zone. The beach is quite good here. The distance from the airport is only about 7 minutes and from downtwon about 8 minutes. The hotel is for adults only, no children are allowed.

Regarding living in Puerto Vallarta, I suggest you check the web-site of Puerto Vallarta's English news-paper 'Vallarta Today'.

Mary...

Will be staying at the Krystal the last week in September. Can you tell me anything about the property and the beach there? Any particularly fun beach bars in the area we should try? We love pools, beaches, sunning, and restaurants of all types and price ranges. Any ideas and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks......Mary

Hi Mary, the Krystal is very nice, one of my favorites. It is like a small Mexican village, including fountains, kiosk, little banks, etc. It is located in the middle of the hotel-zone, so basically you will find hotels within walking distance. Nice beach- bars and beach-restaurants you can find in 'Old Vallarta', also called the 'Romantic Zone'. A great seafood restaurant there on the beach ( nicest for dinner ), is La Palapa.
Downtown and Old Vallarta as well as the Marina area are not far away anyway, everything is located within a driving distance of 5-15 minutes and taxis are cheap ( from 30-50 pesos, approx. 3.50 to 5.50 US per taxi ), and buses are also quite easy to use.
A great Mexican Restaurant in Old Vallarta is Café de Olla.
Try the Marina - area also at least once for dinner, and make sure that you have a drink in the top of the light-house, sunset is excellent from there!
There are many great restaurants in Puerto Vallarta, a couple of very nice ones ( in different price-categories) are La Dolce Vita, Chez Elena, El Palomar de LOs GOnzalez, Mr. Pepe's, Cafe Trio, Cafe des Artistes, well maybe I gave you too many already..
Another recommendation: have a look at the site of http://www.royale-tours.com for activities and excursions.
Iam sure you will have a wonderful time in Puerto Vallarta.
Mary:

My wife, daughter (age 13) and myself are going to PV the week of Dec 16. We are trying to choose between the Allegro Nuevo Vallarta and the Presidente Inter-Continental. They are located at the opposite ends of PV. Is one hotel better than the other and is the Nuevo Vallarta location a better place to be than the South Zone? Any advice will help. Thanks.

Hi Bruce, good to hear that you chose Puerto Vallarta for your next vacation! I know both the Presidente as well as the Allegro pretty well. Personally I like the Presidente better, because is it is a more elegant, more quiet, and a little more upscale than the Allegro. However, certainly for your daughter of 13 as well, the Allegro has much more activities and good entertainment.
So it basically depends on what you are looking for. Presidente offers a la carte meals, all types of drinks, 24 hour room-service, where as the Allegro offers more buffet-type meals, the hotel is more massive, limited drinks included in their open bar etc. The rooms are definitely nicer at the Presidente, at the Allegro resort they are small, yet clean and well maintained. The concept at the Allegro is that you won't be spending a lot of time at your room anyway, as there is so much to do at the resort.
Both the South area as well as Nuevo Vallarta are nice. The South area is probably a little nicer as there is more to visit in the area, and downtown is nearer then from Nuevo Vallarta. However, both have beautiful beaches, and I am sure you would enjoy either of the resorts. Let me know if you have any questions !

Mary

My Wife and I are going to PV in early Oct. Thinking of staying at La Jolla de Mismaloya can you give me pros and cons of this place (I like condo vs Hotels) and are there any good places to snorkle of the beach?

Thanks for your input!!
Dear Greg, it will be a pleasure to give you some input. Normally, snorkelling off the beach is not very good in Puerto Vallarta. The best places for snorkelling are either at the Marieta Islands or at the South-beaches. However, at Mismaloya you can do something else as well. You can rent one of the tenders, which are there at the left side of the beach all the time, for one or two hours and ask them to take you to the Los Arcos Rock formations. These are at only 5-10 minutes distance from the the beach and snorkelling is quite good there. Take your own snorkelling equipment or look for a tender which has equipment for rent.
The hotel La Jolla de Mismaloya is beautiful, it boasts only suites, either one- or two bedroom units with kitchenette. Next to the hotel you will find the condominiums, which are rented by the owners directly. All of them are a little different and the quality in general is a little less luxurious then at the hotel. Both are good options, depending on what you are looking for. let me know if you have other questions.

Mary, could you describe what the rainy season implies in mid June? Hot and humid weather does not bother me when I'm near the ocean and a little rain doesn't scare me off either, but does it rain all day or just an hour here and there?

During the rainy season the weather indeed is hot and humid. Normally it rains for a short period, at the most two hours, and the best thing is that the rain-fall basically always is during the late afternoon, evening or at night. That means that you can still enjoy the beach, pools, boat-trips etc. during the day.

Hi Mary,
We are planning on going to Puerto Vallarta for our honeymoon in early Sept. Right now we are looking into the Eden Sunset Bay Resort (Solare Resort) or the La Joya de Mismaloya. Do you know anything about either one? Or do you have any other suggestions? Thanks for your help.
