puerto aventuras or PDC?

We are planning a trip in Oct. but can't decide whether to stay in Puerto Aventuras or PDC? Which has the better beaches? How do they differ from one another? Any insight would be appreciated!

It really depends on what you like--these are two totally different places. Puerto Adventuras was strictly built to be a resort--Playa del Carmen is a Mexican town that is now one of the fastest growing in Mexico. However, Playa, unlike Cancun, does retain some of its Mexican character. Both have good beaches.

Getting in and out of Puerto Aventuras is not as convenient as PDC. You pretty much depend on the taxi services. PDC is a town booming with tourists. You can also access the Mexican bus transportation system much easier at PDC. However, I love Puerto Aventuras. It is a quiant area with nice beaches.

Hi tcleaner. We just came back from staying at the Royal Hideaway for the 2nd time. From there we walked a few times into PDC. PDC is a very lively, touristy, large town. The beaches are lovely and there are several very nice restaurants.
Puerto Aventuras is just the opposite. It is a quiet, beautiful retreat. There are very nice casual restaurants, golf and tennis. You can walk to the beautiful marina area. The beaches are more pristine and much less crowded. We loved it so much that we bought a fractional ownership at one of the new condos. We can't wait to go back.

Isn't the beach water more rocky and reefy down towards Akumal and Tulum? That's how the brochure pictures look anyway. I'd rather not be in a rocky/reefy area.

Puerto Aventuras is a bit further North of the Tulum area. It's not very far from Maroma fwhichi the Travel channel rate the #1 beach in the world! The beach that I saw in PA was a beautiful, soft sandy beach. I hope that this helps.
