Thinking of PV for a vacation. How's the beaches, nightlife? Also, any input on the Marriott there would be appreciated!

I was there for the first time this past March. We stayed in a hotel south of the city (Blue Bay Club - not Blue Bay Getaway) and I enjoyed it as a relaxing trip. The beach there was very rocky, but still swimmable. The beaches downtown are okay, the water is a little murky, and there are multiple vendors who are very persistent. Not sure about night life as I went more for relaxation, but there are many Carlos O'Brian and Senor Frog locations. If you are into quaint and cozy pubs, there are plenty in the old part of downtown - one I went to was owned by a Canadian man who was into Nascar, served a wonderful (and inexpensive) burger and had the final four on... I was there during Spring Break and it seemed as if there was plenty going on. I heard of a disco that is in the Nuevo Vallarta region, but the name slips my mind (sorry!) I know that they have bubbles, or foam - something to that extent, on the dance floor and people who lived there said it was the best place to go. Most hotels will have plenty of information on the hot spots! Good Luck!

What poster above references... the correct spelling is Puerto Vallarta. This is particularly important if you want to get anywhere with an internet search.<BR><BR>In answer to your post the nightlife is great, a wide range of options, depends on your tastes. Anything from tiny mellow patio bars, to large loud music drunk party bars, to live music, to discos and nightclubs.<BR><BR>The beaches are nice enough and lots of fun (various water activities, vendors, palapa restaurants) but understand you are on the Pacific coast not the Caribbean (you won't see that turquoise blue clear water & crystal white sand on this side).<BR><BR>Don't know a thing about the Marriott, because I always stay at places down in the south part of town (El Centro and Old Town) rather than a resort.

Carlos O'Brien, Hard Rock Cafe, Christine, Cactus, Paco Paco, The Zoo, Senor Frog, Roxy...

Cactus is no more, there's a Salsa place there now.
