Puebla or San Cristobal de las Casas?

Planning a summer trip to Oaxaca City and Hautulco. We have done this trip before and now are taking our 3 daughters and a friend of our oldest. My husband and I will be traveling with 2 15 year-olds, a 20 and 22 year-old. We would like to add a side trip to Puebla or San Cristobal de las Casas.Puebla seems easier, but I have no ideas of what our options are for getting to these places.Bus from Mexico City airport to Puebla? Drive from Huatulco to Chiapas? Fly to Chiapas? How's Chiapas these days? Safe? We have traveled in Mexico quite a bit,we all speak spanish,3 of us almost fluently. Help, I need some good advice!

Your ideas couldn't be much different. A major Mexican City verses a rural area influenced by Mayan culture. As you note, Puebla would be easy. You could bus from the airport, spend a couple of days then head on to Oaxaca City. As far as getting to San Cristobal, you need to fly to Tuxtla Gutierrez. If I'm not mistaken you would have to fly from Oaxaca City back to Mexico City then on, followed by a couple of hour bus ride to San Cristobal. Or you can bus from Oaxaca City about 12 hours. The experiences are so different you need to think about what you want to do.
