Private Transportation for large group

We are traveling to Costa Rica for the first time with a group of 16. (8 couples)We are arriving in SJO late on a Friday night and will be staying at El Cafetal that evening. They will be picking us up but on Saturday we will be going to MA for the week. I have been looking for companies that have large vans or private buses for groups but so far I have only found one. We all want to travel together and don't want to use the public buses. Does anyone have any ideas?

Just wait til you get there and get info. from hotel front desk. as for any of the tour companies and sure they have buses. I think Carelis tours is big in Costa Rica.

You're right about the bus option. For a close group of 16 that wants to talk among themselves, the bus would be difficult.

miguelgcuadra is correct : All the hotels will have resources at their fingertips. You might consider contacting the hotels for leads so that you can make arrangements prior to your departure from home.

...Or, Google it before you leave home. You may be surprised to find more than one company which provides ground transport. There are also recommendations on this forum, as well as Frommer's and VirtualTourist dot com(s) that will help. Use the "search" function of any of the three.

I used swiss travel for my transfer between san jose and guanacaste. They provided a large minibus which would accomodate your group.

Interbus has different options for travel and you can arrange for a private, air conditioned bus. Fantasy Bus may have private buses - can't say for sure. Costaricatransfers.com also does private trips. monteverdeinfo.com does private transfers and has a large bus.

You didn't say when you are going. During the busier times, I would, for a group that size, try to make arrangements ahead of time. You can, as was mentioned, talk to someone at your hotel to see what options they might have but, I would still do that ahead of time.

Thanks everyone for the information. We are going the first week in Feb.(busy time) so I want to confirm transportation since we have such a large group. I have done searches but most companies I've found just have regular size vans. I didn't realize that Interbus has private buses. I will check out some of your other recommendations. Thanks again.
