Private tours/ tour guides from Cuernavaca to Taxco and Mexico city?

Dear travelers,
I wonder if any of you could help me. At the end of this month my boyfriend and I are going to Mexico for two weeks. The first week our home base will be Cuernavaca because my other half is going to take some Spanish classes. The second week our home based will be Cancun.

While he is attending his Spanish course, I want to visit Taxco and do day trips to Mexico City. I want to visit Teotihuacan but I don’t want to go by myself so I’m looking for a tour company that offers day trips to Taxco and Mexico City from Cuernavaca. I’m also open to the possibility to have a private guide.

Could any of you have done something like that? If so, could you please recommend a tour company? I’m fluent in Spanish but I don’t want to travel around Cuernavaca by myself. I have learned from previous trips that it’s very easy to make the wrong turn and end on the wrong part of town.
Thanks

Hi Colombia1!

First of all, I just wanted to let you know that if you stay in the historical center of Cuernavaca (where all you need to visit is situated) you don't specially need a tour company to discover it (and is very safe).

To go to Taxco, the only option for you is to take a bus, as most tour operators leave from Mexico City. Have a look here for bus schedules: http://www.terminalesyautobuses.com

Unfortunately, I don't know why but you can't buy the tickets online for Cuernavaca-Taxco (by the way I recommend you 'Futura' as I always had a great experience with them), but don't worry about that, buses are very rarely full if you go buy the ticket to the bus station the day before you leave.

To go to Teotihuacan, there is a special bus tour (Turibus) that leaves from different strategical points in Reforma and in the Zocalo (Mexico City). This entire-day tour takes you to Basilica de Guadalupe before the Pyramids. Here is the link: http://www.circuitopiramides.com.mx/tour_incluido.html

By the way, 'Turibus' that mainly provides bus tours in Mexico City, does also Taxco and Puebla - but from the DF: http://www.turibus.com.mx/circuitos.html

Otherwise there are plenty of tour operators in Mexico City that can help you with a tour to Teotihuacan (I'm sorry but can't remember the one I booked with, the first time I went), but just to inform you, it tends to be a very long day trip. The most effective (and of course most expensive) would be to go by taxi (SITIO) from Mexico City that will wait for you and bring you back and pay a private guide on the post.

Hope that helps!

Laurent

PuraAventura,
thanks so much for your input. I will follow your links. I was able to find a tour guide through a company call "tourbylocals" and it looks like this person is also a tour guide for Viator. I might hire his services.
Have a nice day.

Yes, I know 'toursbylocals' (a very nice concept by the way). Most of the guides there or work (also) for tour operators or do heritage degree, so that should be ok
