? posting my pictures!

OK now that I finally had a digital camera and am able to share our pictures with people! Where can I do this?

Sorry, I know someone answered this for me a few months back, but I cannot find it!

I need this to be as simple as possible - Any suggestions?

Are you a mac user? If so, I highly recomment .mac it works seamlessly with iPhoto

dfarmer Feb 18th, 2005 05:55 AM

Don't mean to sound stupid - but I am pretty much computer illiterate!

I assume this is the answer to your question! MS Windows XP

Rick_B Feb 18th, 2005 08:41 AM

My wife loves Shutterfly (www.shutterfly.com). It is a commercial service but it's free unless you have them print your pictures. You have to give them some info when you sign up though. After you upload your photos, you can send folks a link like this one (a few of our Costa Rica pics):

http://share.shutterfly.com/osi.jsp?i=EeDOWrFm5ZsNg

Then others can view the album. Another similar alternative is www.ofoto.com. It will work with Windows XP.

Good luck,
Rick

Sorry for the second post...

just to clarify, people looking at the pictures don't have to sign up, only folks posting the pictures. Both services, shutterfly and ofoto, will work with Windows and Internet Explorer.

Google has now bought a company called Picasa. It basically organizes your digital pictures once you copy them to your hard drive. You can download the software for free and there is a share feature that will allow you to share pictures with whoever you select. They would have to have Picasa on their computer as well, however. Go to www.google.com to get it.

We have also used Ofoto for many years and it works well. You email people the "album" location and they can go to it to view the pictures or get prints made up. They would have to sign up and pay for the prints.
Yours Aye,
Hakmat

Thanks - I am working on it! A little slow and go right now.

I use Picasa as well, and find it quite useful for organizing and finding the photos on my hard drive. I've never used it to share with others though, so can't say anything about that.

By the way, I just read your trip report. It makes me want to go back to Bosque. Fred sure makes a tremendous margarita with freshly squeezed limes. I'd go back just for that!

Try either, or both, Ofoto.com (a Kodak company) or Imagestation.com (a Sony company). Very user friendly for both person posting pictures and those viewing them, both are free (have upgrades for a fee - haven't needed them), and neither harrasses you with spam.
Have fun with your pics.

Dear dfarmer:

I have a little website on Virtual Tourist. Its a cool place.
Go check it out: www.virtualtourist.com
First sign up as a member, then
they walk you though very school-like and you put your pictures on the website. I found it simple to do. Then, you can share them with the world. You have space to write something about each picture if you want. ....be sure and come back on here and post a message to go to your virtual tourist website and see them.
You do not have to put a picture of yourself unless you want to do so.

Thanks again!

Rick B you just reminded me of a recipe that was in my little notepad that is misplaced! Fred's Paradise, man that was delicious!

I used www.photosite.com and it was relatively painless to use. Their basic one is free & the limit was somewhere around 120-150 pics. Looking forward to seeing your album.

dfarmer:

All posting sites given to you are good.
I have tried several of them.
Right now I am using ofoto.com (by Kodak).

I will try to help you with this one:

1.Go to www.ofoto.com
2.click on "join now"
3.put in your e-mail address and your own password.
4.Click on "create new album".
The new Album page comes up.

5.Give the Album a title(eg My Album 1)
6.You can give a date if you want( not needed).

7.Give the Album a Description(like "Osa")
8. When this is done , you click on "next"
9.A new page comes up and it says "no photos selected."
Now you have to select photos to put into your newly formed Album. !

The drag and drop method of putting photos into your Album is easier.

For this drag and drop ...it is better for you to have all your picture icons that you want to put into the Album ,on your desktop....

Okay , let us say that you have 10 picture icons on your desktop ,that you want to put into your Album.

Split the screen, where half the screen is your Album and half the screen is your desktop with the picture icons visible.

Now just click on a picture icon on your desk top and drag it over to the Album area and then release the mouse button ...and there you are..you just deposited your FIRST picture into your new Album.

repeat this process one at a time for all your other picture icons.

Okay , now if your photos are NOT on the desktop..then in that same screen window where it says "no Photos Selected", you can then click on "choose photos".

When you do this ..the places that you have pictures on your computer will come up and you can choose what ever photo you want to put into your new Album.

After you have clicked on this picture icon that you just chose, then click on "Add" and the photo will be added to you new Album in the same manner as the drag and drop was.

Do NOT use the "Single Photo upload" as it is too messy!!!

Okay, dfarmer, now all the photos that you wanted to put into your new album have been placed there.

Okay now click on "start upload".

This may take a while depending on how many photos you put in and how fast your computer system is.
However,
Under each photo it shows you the percentage(%) that has been uploaded so far .

So when photo#1 is uploaded, then it moves on to photo #2 and so on..until all the photos have been uploaded.

You are able to watch the progress..but if it is going to take 30 minutes to upload...then go and do something else
and come back periodically to check!!

Also if there is any photo you do not like..then just click on the "remove" that is right under each photo.

Now when all the uploading of your photos are done....then you click on
"View Album".

The page comes up now with your Album and the Title you gave it.

Now onthe right hand side of the screen is a line that says:
"Add Photo Titles."

Click on this line and you can give each photo a title, eg( "me at the ruins in Cartago")..when you have given all your pictures the titles that you want ..
you can then view all your pictures
or
you can click on "share photos"

A new page comes up asking you who you want to share these photos with.
...just enter their e-mail address.
...then just below this ,enter any message you want like (These are picture of my great trip to Costa Rica.")

Finally, now Scroll down a bit on this same page and make SURE you REMOVE the little tick mark in the box where it says:
"Require friends to sign in to view your album".
You do not want your friends to sign in.!!

All Done....you now have an Album full of your pictures to send to anywhere.

I know this is long but hopefully a little helpful if you chose ofoto.com

Percy ( okay let's see those pictures now !!!)
