Poll: What's your favorite Mexican vacation city and why?

I've been to Puerto Vallarta and Cozumel and tend to like PV better. I'm interested in somewhere new this year - preferably a spot with several available activities or things to see... in addition to a beach. What's your favorite and why?

I like PV much more than Playa del Carmen although the beach in Playa is far superior to PV. The atmosphere and scenerely are much better in PV. PV is much more charming and there is a lot more to do. I enjoyed the weather in Playa and the beach was gorgeous(a little chilly-water temp, last week)but Puerto Vallarta has the charm of its colonial area and the mountains are gorgeous. The Yucatan is flat and uninteresting. Would I go back? Sure, to escape this terrible cold here in the North East.

I just returned for a Christmas in Pureto Vallarta with 16 family members! I loved it. There are endless things to do. You can canopy in the jungle where "The Predator" was filmed, (Not the best canopy place, just a cool reference ;) ), beaches, horseback riding, nightlife, snorkeling and the great town and market. We decided to do public transportation (buses) instead of renting a car and it was perfect.

Fun Fun Fun! So far my favorite in Mexico.

My favourite vacation in Mexico is a combination of 2 destinations split between a beach community and a city / town in the interior. In terms of beaches, I used to love Puerto Vallarta back in the 80's, but was much less impressed last year. I liked Zihuatanejo a lot - that's a nice town to visit. I also have enjoyed Playa del Carmen (although I must admit I have gone to Cozumel several times over the last 20 years and always enjoy it - the snorkeling is great). We spent a week in Sayulita last year - loved the area, although there isn't a huge amount to do there. But it's close enough to Puerto Vallarta that you can go to PV for a day trip.

Have been to Mexico every year for the last 15 yrs sometimes 2x a year alternating w/P. Vallarta our favorite, Cancun, least favorite except for the beach and proximity to where we live (East Coast) and Ixtapa. If you like P. Vallarta then try Ixtapa there isn't as much to do but you can always go into Ziuantaneo for something to do it's a nice little town. It's a lot warmer than P. Vallarta but perfect weather if you go from Nov thru May. The next time I want a change of scenery my husband and I are going to Riviera Maya to the Royal Hideaway it's adults only and truly luxurious. Haven't been but am expectingto go in a few years. My husband are not yet tired of P. Vallarta. Good Luck
