poas volcano last day

We are a group of six people we fly in on nature air at 8:55 am our last day and have to be at SJO at 5pm. I have hired a driver to tour and to experience every last thing we can before we leave. It has been suggested to do poas volcano, doka coffee tour and sarchi. If the volcano is clouded over is it worth it to still go is the experience still nice or would you skip it. Any other great ideas? We are interested in seeing culture and scenary. We are coming form montezuma so already will have done the beach thing. Any ideas would be great. Thanks

Not worth it if it is clouded over. You could do Doka or Waterfall Gardens.

Another nice place especially if the sun is out is arkherbfarm.com

Note it can be sunny in San Jose and you still won't see anything at Poas..happened to me.

I don't think Poas is worth it clouded over. It's basically just looking at clouds, but I'm not sure how you would know if it's clouded over or not without going there. When we first got there, it was completely enshrouded, but we waited around, and the clouds completely lifted, and we had a great view. We felt like we got lucky. The crowd actually cheered when the clouds parted and lifted! We like the waterfall gardens too, and the Doka tour.

If you have never stood on the very edge of a SEMI-dormant volcanic crater,it is worth the chance with the weather. As the above posters say arrive early. The gates open around 8AM and is usually not too cloudy in the morning. The crater is awesome and there is only a small fence between you and a 400 meter drop into a boiling lake. Ominously cool sight, take a jacket or sweater, it is a bit cool at 10,000 feet.

You will know when you reach the entrance, just turn around instead of paying $10 to stare into a fog bank.

We weren't able to tell from the entrance when we went; it seems like we had to walk a little ways to get to the crater. If you go and it is clouded over, I'd give it a chance to clear up. There's also a big lake you can walk to.

unfortunately I can not get there super early probably around 10am that seems to be the magic hour. I still might chance it,since Doka tour is close by is that correct? Just looking to see other areas of CR since we are spending the week in Montezuma. I have been to CR twice before but bring friends who have not.

Yes, if it's clouded you can go downhill to Doka. It's fine in the mist. Their lunch at Doka is pretty decent and not expensive. Be sure to buy some strawberries on the way up or down!

Sarchi is OK, but if you're pressed for time and couldn't go, you wouldn't have missed that much. The drive alone to Poas is worth it even if it's socked in when you get there. We arrived at noon and it was fine; I suppose we got lucky...

I think we will chance it.
