Poas Lodge-Colberts

anyone stayed at Poas Lodge with the restaurant?
Tried Colberts?
Is the road open to Arenal from Poas?

I believe the road is still closed due to the earthquake. shillmac loves Colbert's and has always spoken highly of it.

We stopped to look at Poas Volcano Lodge about 6 weeks ago. The main lodge was completely destroyed by the earthquake and they are rebuilding it. It should be absolutely beautiful when it is done. They do have rooms that they are renting in a separate building, and the junior suites looked like they would be nice, but there is no restaurant on the property, except for breakfast. They recommend going to Colberts, which is very close. We love going to Colberts, and drive up there from the airport area just for lunch. It is a beautiful drive and the food is excellent. You feel like you are eating in France. We bring the homemade French bread and cured ham and good cheeses back and eat it for the rest of the week. They are open every day but Thursday and it's worth the drive.

Thank you!
Have you been to the other Poas Lodge w/Restaurant..near the waterfalls?

crystal, are you talking about the Peace Lodge? If so, yes we've stayed there and really enjoyed it.

Love Colbert's! :)

Poas Lodge is a restaurant/bar and rooms 4km(3miles) from the entrance to Poas National Park & Volcano.
The restaurant always has very good compliments, and the rooms are very clean and comfortable.

Wow, your views look beautiful. Thanks for providing the link.

Can you tell me if Poas Lodge and Poas Volcano Lodge are one and the same? So many places have similar names.

shillmac Nov 15th, 2009 09:38 AM

Volcanogirl, judging by the description of their location, it doesn't sound like it could be the same. Poas Volcano Lodge had so much damage, I think they are still rebuilding. They are on the other side of La Paz, over toward where the damage was greater.

volcanogirl, your question sent me off to Trip Advisor (checking out the link above). I also did a TA search for Poas Volcano Lodge. Not the same place, owners names are different. Sounds like PVL is up and running, but still under construction. The reason I posted this time is because several of the "reviewers" of Poas Volcano Lodge mentioned eating at Colbert's. I thought the original poster might be interested in reading those reviews.

Thanks, shillmac. We love the Peace Lodge but it's wonderful to find alternative places that are more budget friendly too.

I want to stay at Peace Lodge again with our granddaughter, she loves it so there. It's such a special place, but danged, the prices just kill us! So hard to justify $600 for 2 nights! That said, if we can fanagle it, we'll probably give it a try again this summer. Just like that terrific swimming pool at Flamingo Beach Resort--it's just a pool, for pity's sake, but it is such a GREAT one! Funny to be all the way down in Costa Rica just to enjoy a pool so very much, yet she talks about it all the time--and we think about it, too.
