Please help me figure out how to get to mazatlan

I need to get to Mazatlan from Boston in May. The flights all seem expensive and inconvenient; HOWEVER, it appears that I can fly to Mexico City quite cheaply. Wondering if t would be better to fly to Mexico City and book a separate flight to Mazatlan. It's cheaper but I'm scared to do so in case of cancellations or delays. We have to go to MZT, as a family member is getting married. The rest of the fam lives in Mexico City so we'd have a place to stay. Argh. Any advice?

How much, in terms of actual dollars do you consider “expensive” and how do you define “inconvenient????

I did a quick search and found American has a connecting flight via Phoenix that you can get for under $600 PP R/T.

You can research available flights & fares from several different airlines here: Matrix - ITA Software by Google

Yes, I saw that flight. The return for our dates would be 784 pp.

I have enough miles for the three of us to fly to MZT but it's the return that is the issue. I think it would be better to book a one way to MEX and than a MEX-BOS flight.
