Four of us flew into San Jose and travelled up to Arenal. We stayed at a beautiful resort there called the Volcano Lodge. I would highly recommend it, and all of us are wanting to go back again soon. From there you can zip line, hike, visit the hot springs, horse back ride, etc. The grounds are just beautiful and the active volcano is the view from your room! If youd like, by nite you can take a short ride to get a better view of the glowing lava coming down the side of the volcano. The Arenal Observatory Lodge is close by and a visit there will get you a view of the opposite side of the volcano. On the way back to San Jose we stopped off at Poas Volcano. This volcano has a flat top in which you can walk up to (a fairly short and easy trek) and look directly into the summit. Ive got some awesome pics I will share with you if interested. If you have more time to spend as we did, a visit to Manuel Antonio Park to see the monkeys along the shore, was also amazing.
