Wow, not much to critique LOL.
As far as monkeys go, depends on where you are. There are certainly plenty of them around down there. I have seen both the mono titis and the mono congos while on kayak tours with Escondido Trex in the mangroves.
On the road between PJ and Carate there are always monkeys. The Cabo Matapalo area is loaded with them. All 4 kinds live there. I have seen spider and white faced in the Carate area while staying at the tent camp and other places like Luna Lodge and LookOut Inn.
Haven't seen any while at Iguana Lodge/Pearl of the Osa although you could take a horseback trip back in the rainforest to see some from there. The forest is a bit too broken up right there because of cattle ranches. There is a program now to encourage the ranchers to reforest but it will take awhile. Escondido trex is just a little further down the road from them but the conditions are a little better I guess. The former owner of Escondido is working on establishing a botanical garden which might be giving the monkeys a better connection to that area.
Everything is getting better there. I have been amazed at how many more Scarlet macaws I see in the Iguana Lodge area these days compared to the rare few that would fly by in years past. Last year when there they were even landing in the trees around the lodge regularly. Hopefully the monkeys will be moving in soon.

Jessie-
only kidding about the monkeys. We really have no reservations but we expect to stay at least the first night at the Pearl. Hop a ferry to Zancudo and hopefully make it south of Pavones and would love to travel overland from PJ through Ricon to Drake Bay.
We will see. Usually I too would have reservations and more of an itinerary but this seemed like a fun and a good time of year to wing it.

I puzzled over your post earlier today, GFH--finally decided you were having a little Fodor Fun--especially with the monkey ?. . . .
So you really are going to spend all that time down south? I'll sure be interested in reading about it!
Sounds like a lot of fun--especially checking out Zancudo & Pavones.

Shillmac-
We plan to spend at least a long week on the Osa but it depends if the overland to Drake Bay is a viable option(most likely public transport).
I too am excited about the Zancudo to Punta Banco leg and will post what I learn.
My wife is interested in the carib side(we will fly back to SJ reguardless) so we might tack on a few days south near the border.
I got the feeling my monkey joke did not go over very well with the Fodors crowd- I am just excited to be leaving

My first sentence showed my sense of humor hopefully when I laughed about the itinerary. Cute. It is amazing but not surprising how many people do ask about the monkeys though. I try to take everyone seriously because it is important to them. Even if you didn't really want to know, I am sure someone out there will.
Have fun on that ferry, it is an early one. Alfredo is used to picking people up early so he will most likely be the one to get you there. Did it once each way, that was enough for me. A little too smelly and claustrophobic for my taste although we did have fun watching the dolphins swimming along side of us on the return (to PJ) trip.
