playa.info tour to Chichen Itza in May
Has anyone taken the tour offered by playa.info (anna and james tours)? It sounds great to have a tour with ~15 people but I am concerned about the distance from playa del carmen to chichen itza and if there are not enough people for the tour to go, what are my other options? Thanks,

If you can't go with them you can rent a car. There is an Executive right on 5th avenue in PDC that is pretty good to work with.

Try jeromitransfers.com. I found them on this travel forum. For a little more than you would pay for 2 people on a tour, you can get a private transfer to Chichen Itza from PDC and have more time to spend than you would if you took the tour.

I second renting a car. It is so easy to drive. But it depends on whether you like being trapped by the tour and the other occupants. We personally, go faster and prefer our own self guided tour, with the books or pamphlets you get at the site. You really save a lot of time. But, if you like the laid back, let someone else doing the driving, and visiting on a bus, go for it.

Are you flying into Cancun? We rented a car and drove straight to Chichen upon arrival in Cancun. Spent the night and toured the ruins the next morning. We then drove to our resort (Maroma), turned in our car and "beached it" for the rest of our trip.
Happy travels!!! |
If you drive yourselves to Chichen, I'd suggest that you hire a guide onsite; our guide did a great job and it really made a difference in my experience.
