Playa Hermosa/Nicoya

Arriving in Liberia on December 4th and still tossing it around on where to stay. My question is relative to Playa Hermosa. The size of the village; how many restaurants, bars, etc. are there? Can you spend four nights in Playa Hermosa?

I know Tamarindo is the largest "town" in the area, but I wasn't sure if I wanted to stay there the entire week. Your thoughts and further suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Playa Hermosa isn't much. But you could use it as a base for travel to other nearby beaches and other activities. There are a few restaurants and stores but after about a day or two, it would be time to see something else.

From Playa Hermosa, you can:

Take a day trip (or tour) to one of four National Parks - Rincon de la Vieja, Miravalles, Tenorio or Palo Verde. The Palo Verde tour is a boat ride through the Park.

Spend the day in Playas del Coco - a bigger town and really close - a lot closer than Tamarindo

Arrange a snorkeling or cruising excursion on a boat

Without really knowing what you are looking for, it's hard to recommend any alternative.

What we are looking for is beachy stuff plus a couple day trips. Pretty much similar to the most recent reply......with this being the case; do we need a rental car? Also, we had intended to head to Tamarindo for the last 3/4 days.

Thanks!

If you rent a car, you will have lots more flexibility and freedom to explore. Once you get to Tamarindo, probably no need for a car since most things are within walking distance.

You could rent a car at the airport for your time at Playa Hermosa and then turn it back in and take the shuttle to Tamarindo. Or -- just keep the rental car. But it would be nice to have a car in Playa Hermosa. Otherwise, you will be either taking tours for day trips or riding the bus or taxis everywhere.
