Playa Flamingo, CR local activities

We will be staying in Playa Flamingo for a week in January, 2010. Any suggestions for local activities (snorkeling, boat tours, canopy tours, parks, etc.) and restaurants and nightlife suitable for 19 yr. old college girls?

Playa Flamingo is a great area from which to explore.

For snorkeling, go to Brasilito (10 min. south), drive up the beach to Playa Conchal (back of the resort Paradisus/Reserva Conchal) and enjoy the beautiful clear blue wate4r. I always see snorkelers over to the right by the rocks. You'll love the shell beach--very pretty.

Should be lots of canopy options. Check with the hotel. Are you staying at Flamingo Beach Resort? DON'T do the all-inclusive, if so! The food isn't great, and there are SO many places to eat all around: Marie's (right across the road); El Castillo, Marco Polo, both in Playa Potrero; Tamarindo, 30 min. to the south, with tons of places; Mar y Sol French Restaurant there in Playa Flamingo; Brasilito, The Happy Snapper, Outback Jack's just to name a few.

Do the Sunset Cruise. You'd enjoy it, I think. Also, you might consider the Palo Verde tour (river), again, check with the hotel.

This is one of our favorite areas. The pool is wonderful! We love having breakfast over at El Castillo in Potrero, and exploring dining outside the hotel.

Oh, and for a spa, don't use the one at the hotel. It may be okay, not sure, but it is fairly new. Go across the street to the second floor of that newly built plaza, and inquire at Petit Paris salon. Caroline gives the best massage I've ever had! It's a great hair salon as well. You can get mani's and pedi's there also.

Have a great time, girls!

We loved the catamaran cruise out of Flamingo - Lazy Lizard, I think it was called. Went out mid-afternoon to some islands about an hour offshore, went snorkeling and kayaking, then watched the gorgeous sunset on the way back. The snorkeling is not the best as compared to the Caribbean, but we saw many different types of fish and coral. Good food and drink on the boat, too!

Stop by the Remax office in Flamingo and they will direct you so that you have the best time. Two must eats in Flamingo are Mar y Sol ( at sunset) and Angelinas. For sure sunset sail with Judd, golf.. A new great cocktail lounge is set to open in the Flamingo plaza in Nov.. Casino and spa at the Flamingo beach resort. The girls can take the bus or taxi or drive to Tamarindo 20 minutes away... Also Las Brisas on Wed night is great.
