Playa del Carmen vs. Isla Blanca

Hello,

My husband and I are trying to decide between two hotels and areas: Chalet Maya in Isla Blanca, and Mosquito Blue in Playa del Carmen. Does anyone have any feedback or advice about either of these spots?

Thanks for your help,
Jordanna

Chalet Maya will be more quiet as it's 20 minutes out of Cancun, while Mosquito Blue (a lovely hotel, by the way) is in 'downtown' Playa Del Carmen.
If you decide on Chalet Maya, please post a report when you get back, as I've not found anyone who has stayed there and I really want to know what it's like! It sounds fabulous!

Thanks, Ally. We are leaning towards the quieter area (Isla Blanca).

I am wondering just how crazed Playa del Carmen would be at Christmas time, never having been there before. Is it mostly a nightlife kind of town? I have seen some great reviews of restaurants in this area, but is the main daytime activity the beach?

Thanks for any feedback,
Jordanna

Besides the beaches, the other 'daytime' activities are the tours to the ruins, a couple of 'waterparks' ATV tours, ect., all of which you could also do as day trips from Chalet Maya! It would just take you longer to get there!
There is a lot of nightlife in Playa, but just as much, even more in Cancun. If it's peace you want, I'd stay at Chalet. You could always go into Cancun if you want some nightlife!

Thanks again, Ally. Does anyone know if the recent hurricane will affect either of these areas?

Best,
Jordanna
