Playa Del Carmen to Chichen Itza
Four of us are going to spend a week in Cozumel in December. We want to go to Chichen Itza. The prices for going on a tour by bus or plane are over $100 each. I read that a bus station is close to the ferry stop in Playa Del Carmen. Is this true? And if there is bus service out of Playa Del Carmen, does it go to Chichen Itza? The tours include shows and buffets, which we don't want. If there is bus service from Playa Del Carmen, how can I find out about schedules?

Also if anyone has any other advice, it's welcome.

The is a great local first class bus right from to Merida. Playa is quite small. Bus station is very easy to find. Right by the ped. walkway. Check it out when you arrive in Playa. Times are posted.

Hi Denise,
I was in Playa Del Carmen last year and there were bus services to Chichen Itza all of the place. There is a lot of competition in prices. I dont think you will have any problem at all jumping on a bus in Playa Del Carmen.
Sorry, I dont have specific details for you but all over the port there were booths set up.

Rent a car!! A girlfriend and I went to Playa del Carmen 2 years ago, and we rented a car to go to Chichen Itza. We bought bread and cold meats and cheeses and some cold beer, and packed a cooler and drove down there ourselves. There are several quaint little Mexican towns that you pass through on the way, and it was a LOVELY day trip. We didn't have to be packed in like a herd of cattle in a bus, we had our own car, and got to stop when we wanted to, and travel at our own pace. If you have 4 people, and get yourselves a big enough car, you'll have a GREAT trip. FORGET THE BUS!!! A car split between the 4 of you will be WAY cheaper, and BETTER.
