Playa del Carmen rodent

HI,
Just got back from Playa del Carmen and had a great time at the Iberostar Tucan. While we were there we saw many tailess rodents that kind of looked like a rat but bigger and furrier. No one seemed to know what they are. Can anyone tell us?
Thanks,
Sharon

We were at the Iberostar Tucan last month and we absolutely loved it. We asked several people, including staff what that animal was and no one seemed to know. We had the pleasure (sarcasm) of witnessing them mating. It wasn't a pretty site. They were quite harmless though. We really loved this resort. The grounds were very lush and much more interesting than most resorts.
