playa del carmen in august.

I'm planning a trip to pdc in august, middle two weeks. intending on staying at Riu Tequila.
can anyone give me information on this resort and what sort of weather to expect during those two weeks. As well, some information on Xcaret and the dolphin swim program. thanks

Hi Linda,
August in town at PDC is extremely hot, so if you are downtown, make sure you dress in light colored cottons and drink plenty of water.
At the beachfront, there is almost always a nice breeze, and you will be fine.
I would ask you to please reconsider the dolphin swim. They are incredibly cruel. I did it once and was sorry ever since. No matter how clean or nice it looks, more than half of the dolphins die within 60 to 90 days of capture.
In order to make an informed decision, please visit:

http://dolphinproject.org/

http://www.hsus.org/ace/11727

(The second site is the Humane Society of the United States' position on SWTD programs.)

Hi Linda,
cant tell you anything about Mexico, but had to reply, my fiancee & I are flying out on 11 aug to get married at the RIU TEQUILLA. Maybe we will see you there, we will be the Brits with Wedding clothes on (not all the time). Cant wait.

you will be surprised to learn that August is not the hottest month in Playa but May is. But it is hot everywhere right now and I imagine that inludes the Mayan Riviera

The Riu Tequila is a bit run down, big colorful hotel though. If you can try to book with other Riu hotels(Riu Playacar, Riu Yucatan or the most upscale Riu Palace. All three are right on the beach and much much nicer than the Tequila which is across from the beach and the oldest one too! It's hot & humid during that time, bring nice casual clothes. For evening you can dress up a little bit more.

Sorry I meant the Riu Tequila is across the street from the beach, 10-15 minutes walk ? We've stayed at the Riu Yucatan and another time at the Riu Playacar, but walked over to the other two to check them all out, and you actually can eat & drink or use facilities of all three but the Palace. Now for the Marrying couple, the Riu Yucatan would be the most romantic resort of all those Riu's.The Palace ,while I think it's the nicest one, it's a little too formal for my choice of a vacation, and most peoples who stayed there are older.Have fun.
