Playa Del Carmen for Honeymoon?
Hello everyone. On our travel agent's suggestion, we're considering Playa Del Carmen for our honeymoon in March.
I'd love to hear input on which resort we should stay at for a romantic feel. Our criteria: great beaches activities during the day and some nightlife (bars/restaurants at night) waterfalls would be great too we want to be oceanfront... walk out of our room and have views of ocean I appreciate any input. Thank you! (p.s. also in the running are Couples Sans Suic Ocho Rios Jamaica and a Caribbean Cruise) |
We have been going to Playa and the surrounding area for many years. Playa seems like a perfect honeymoon spot - great beach, lots of nightlife, tons of restaurants, shopping, etc. You can explore Mayan ruins deep in the jungle, snorkel, zip line, etc. The one thing this area doesn't have is waterfalls - the whole Yucatan is perfectly flat, mostly jungle, with no rivers.
Do you want a small beachfront hotel, or a mega resort on the ocean - Playa has both. Here is a place that looks like it would be a good honeymoon spot, in the heart of the city, but on a great beach: http://www.realresorts.com/The_Royal_Playa_Carmen/ Also check out locogringo.com for lots of info on the whole area. |
I don't know what kind of amenities you need, but I'd also look at the ocean front cabins of both Mahekal (http://www.mahekalplaya.com/) and Las Palapas (http://laspalapas.com/). Both seem like pretty romantic settings to me. Haven't been yet -- we're going to Playa in March -- so I don't have first-hand experience yet. Just a couple thoughts.

Thank you both very much! I'll check out the links :)

My brother stayed at Secrets Maroma for his honeymoon last year. He loved it. The resort gave them the "honeymoon" suite, and there were some other perks as well.

Thank you both very much! I'll check out the links :)

Look into the Royal Playa del Carmen, Iberostar Paraiso Grand, Secrets Maroma, Royal Hideaway. These are some of the top adults only all inlcusive resorts.
|
Thanks, those are the three i've jotted down from my research. Is there somewhere I can get a comparison on what each offer or how they're different?
thanks again! |
I think most of them offer very similar features and amenities. You can probably best compare by reading reviews on tripdadvisor to see what people say about the quality of the rooms, food, beach, etc.

You need to decide if you want to be in Playa downtown, where you can just walk out of your hotel onto the busy 5th Avenue, or out a few miles in a more secluded spot. Both choices have their pros and cons.
|
If you stay in downtown Playa, you don't need an all-inclusive resort. There's great dining right in town (much better than anything you'll find in an all-inclusive), there's also lots of night life. On the other hand, in all-inclusive resorts you don't have to worry about bar tabs, cover fees, food bills, and most non-motorized water sports.

I recommended staying away from the all inclusive resort, but my husband and I adventure seekers....we really like getting into the local culture and exploring the area.
The Riviera Maya is very safe. I wrote a blog comparing the most popular beaches of the Riviera here, I think it has good info for the first timer: http://www.adventures-mexico.com/lil...rison/comments |
Check out Grand Velas Riviera Maya.
